Re: Forum Flyers
My wife did her 3rd 1' attempt today, with some instructions and "fly and die" she managed 275m (+11m) with peak pace of 1:40, as she's hardly rowing atm that's a really good result I think

Martin, does your wife have a track sprinter background? I'm sorry about that.Slothful1 wrote: ↑May 10th, 2020, 5:21 amThanks for the 2km, Cynthia. I wasn't expecting that you'd be able to fit one in, so happy to see that you've done it.
Unfortunately the Spring Series is pretty automated from the logbook side, and they seem to want standardised, verified entries. It's not showing up on the team page, and that's probably because you're not able to rank that interval piece (which is part of the Spring Series process).
No problem though, because there seem to be quite a few people who aren't coming back from the earlier rounds, and so boat 3 doesn't look like it will happen. The good news though is that you at least have a benchmark in your own log, and can take another run at it later in the season when you're ready.

Anyway, that fast start caused a BAD flare-up. Which, after a couple weeks, started to calm a bit. Except, I thought maybe I could ease the shopping trips with a produce delivery service. But the first box arrived a day early, wasn't ready, still veggies in fridge, and all the veggies in the box were sopping wet from condensation, so I had a bit of a job trying to dry them, process the greens, preserve some bell peppers that were a bit soft by fermenting them (That turned out GOOD, though!) and was on my feet too long. Really bad flare-up now. Which had calmed some, but shopping at Safeway yesterday made things VERY painful last night and worse this morning. Hoping it calms some now that I'm up. I don't feel very steady walking. Pain has gone down to my knees again and lower.
Doctor's appointment in June, think I will have to try a spinal injection, just hope insurance will approve the MRI we'd need first. Unless things calm again, I don't know what else I can do. I don't know when or if I can row again.
Been depressed, that's why I haven't come around. It's too hard to read about rowing when I want to and can't. Maybe if this flare-up ever calms down. But I will not likely ever to be able to try fast starts again. I need to go slow, ramp up slowly to better stroke rate. Right now though, more worried about just walking. And my arms have started hurting this past week, I don't know why, but that's a huge worry, since I depend on them a lot when my legs aren't quite right.

Re: Forum Flyers
Sorry to hear that the pain is back, Cynthia. Hopefully some productive medical advice comes in June, and at least hoping some rest helps during the time until then.
I've also been struggling with badly-timed vegetable deliveries (combined with a lack of time to use what I ambitiously buy). I'd be interested to hear more about the fermented peppers - how you make them, etc. I was planning on roasting the excess and storing in oil, but hadn't thought of the fermentation route.
Switching to rowing talk (sorry, Cynthia!)...
I've signed up for the virtual British champs, because it looked like an interesting concept, and also a good reason to knuckle down with some structured training. I grabbed the last 6 weeks of the old trusty Interactive Programme, and proceeded to postpone the first session by a week. Knocked off the 3 x 14' UT1 session on Sunday while watching the first episode of Last Dance on Netflix. Looking forward to the rest of the series while doing the longer UT1 and UT2 sessions.
Power is definitely off from where I was in January at the same heart rate, but hopefully 5 weeks of knuckling down should help me improve on the 2km time from earlier this month. Tonight is an 8x45" AN session, which is why I'm sitting here typing and trying to find the motivation to hit some sprints.

tonite managed to get brendanh over the line - 356m - he surprised himself and it was a genuine 100% effort on his back at the end. His training buddy Jordan did it as well and did 329.

Looks like an interesting one this month, good 5k/30min training session.
Isnt it us choosing July??

Re: Forum Flyers
We have August, because TokyoRow asked to jump the queue to coincide with his plan to finish his long-term challenge at the same time as the Olympics. Even though that fell through I decided not to cause confusion by asking to reverse the offer. Gives us an extra month to think of something juicy!
