Can this one team row to the moon and back?

Yes, but I have to rest a bit! I started the ride wanting to just shave eight seconds off of my time. :D Four more seconds to capture the #1 spot are going to be rough. My face and hands went numb on the last ride!
Seriously good work, man. For me anyway, with heart rates that high my hands go numb first, then arms, then tightness in the shoulders and neck, then tunnel vision, then pass out. Keep pushing but know your limits, be mindful, keep an eye on that heart rate, and be safe. If you're going to push the limits, have someone standing by in case anything goes wrong.
Derric's advice makes good sense. Listen to him, not my challenge.

With a final meter push, we have 45 Lunies on the Skeleton Crew Honor Board...out of 6,862 listed skeletons! Congratulations to our newest Crew members: Laurie, Larry, Corey, Orest, Ron W, Heather, Rebecca, Patrick Hmr, Brett, William C, Robert E

Velex (Orest) asks if we have any additional Concept2 Challenges between now and the Holiday Challenge...at the moment, none are listed. That said, Concept2 recognized early on that 2020 was not a year in which we could see that well in advance. They have been known to add in some surprises this year. The Ski Erg Sprints are taking place November 12-15 for those who are ski ergers.

Thanks Kona! Little slower this year, but I get in what I can! 14 hr days takes up some of my rowing days... not complaining as I get to go home to family each night. Wouldn’t trade that for anything again. Happy rowing everyone! Ed

Whooosh

Post by Kona2 » November 1st, 2020, 9:53 pm

I did think about this being the start of November this AM. And yet, I didn’t go back and put the trademark first of the month Whooosh in the posting. Tradition does win out! Even at the end of the day!

Whoooosh!!!! That’s the sound of you and your erg flying through yet another month!!!

About The Holiday Challenge

Post by Kona2 » November 2nd, 2020, 10:20 am

The Holiday Challenge is easily the most popular in the Concept2 - and it's also one that the Lunies have a good time completing. We add a little bit of reindeer fun to the Challenge. EVEN THO we are a few weeks away from its start, I thought it would be good to share what how we celebrate the milestones so you can plan your erging time accordingly.

Image Image

This year, we have 29 days to complete the Holiday Challenge. Concept2 describes the Holiday Challenge as:

Holiday Challenge 2020

November 26–December 24

Row, ski or ride 100k or 200k meters between American Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve and help raise money for one of four great charities.

The Details

Row, ski and/or ride 100,000 meters or 200,000 meters from November 26 to 11:59 p.m. December 24.
Indoor rower, SkiErg and BikeErg meters only (no on water/on snow meters please). You can combine meters from each machine to reach the challenge goal. Note: BikeErg meters are counted as half when applied to the challenge. Learn more about BikeErg meters below in How To Participate.
Support great causes with your meters! Read about this year’s charities below.
This is an individual challenge. Teams are not used for this challenge.
The Kids' Holiday Challenge allows kids (aged 16 and under) to participate at 50,000 meters.
Adaptive athletes can choose to participate at the 50k, 100k, or 200k levels.
Deadline for entering meters: 11:59 pm GMT (6:59 pm ET), January 4th.

Holiday Challenge Charities
There's also a charitable giving aspect to the Holiday Challenge. Here's how it works: For every person who rows, skis or rides 100k during the challenge, Concept2 will donate $.02 per kilometer (1000 meters) to your choice of this year's charities. Once you get beyond 100k, we'll donate $.04 per additional kilometer. In order for your meters to count, however, you must choose a charity from the front page of your Logbook (or select "Let Concept2 Choose" if you don't have a preference). For kids and adaptive participants, the $.04 rate will take effect at 50k. Note: BikeErg meters count for half the distance when calculating your Holiday Challenge meters and any related donation.

The 2020 charities are:

The Pocock “A Most Beautiful Thing” Inclusion Fund
Doctors Without Borders
Direct Relief
Everyone Eats

Image

What we Lunies also chase after.....REINDEER! There are five milestones:

100K .... you earn your Reindeer .... and it gets a name.
200K .... you earn your Concept2 pin, and your reindeer earns its antler lights.
300K .... oooooh...the flashing harness!
400K ... the tail wag
500K ... added in the ear wag

Ever since the Skunk Incident(s), I check the backyard environs BEFORE I let the dynamic Golden duo out there when darkness prevails. There was a time right after the most recent cold snap and snow where tons of leaves were falling, rustling to the ground. Was that leaves skittering or was it an animal moving around in fallen leaves??! Flashlight in hand, I check the perimeters. Skitter, skitter demands a second look. If it were a movie, it would be freeze frame and zoom in on that white striped tail...dramatic music highlighting each zoom. I'd never shoo'd a skunk before, but there I was saying "go on...get out of here" and he/she was trucking up the path to the side gate...and squeezing through the base of it. Much better to go for avoidance!

Image
THREE WEEKS from today the starting gun will fire....and we will race our collective ergs towards the traditional "Santa" finish line. Reindeer will be flying!
