All In A Couple of Days of Erging: Team Progress Thru 9.24.2020

Post by Kona2 » September 25th, 2020, 10:04 am

Image Day 11 of 31 !!!

Here are the current standings: https://log.concept2.com/challenges/ftc/2021/teams

We have arrived at a Simon and Garfunkel moment in the Challenge....and the Free Spirits are chomping at the backside of our ergs! Still, it is a long Challenge and many, MANY things can and do happen! Days you can't contribute, and days you can donate more than once! The first two weeks of any month long team Challenge are always all about building a team - and we have 90 Lunies on the Fall Challenge Team, which is truly awesome! The last two weeks (which begin on October 1st) are when the real Challenge starts! So buckle up, Lunies - it's going to be a wild ride and we need all ergs in motion!

Hi LUNA-TICS,

I wrote the following tool for Free Spirits, but thought you might appreciate it to keep track of how you are all doing :)

https://freespiritsrowing.com/challenge ... CS&id=2537

I'm sure I will keep playing with it and adapting it over the next few days, so stay tuned and I hope you enjoy it.

It's been quite a scrap between our two teams today. Long may it last :D :D

Or, you can take a look at the clever, albeit cheeky, galactic gauntlet gift thrown down by our nearest competitors, the Free Spirits. It is a nice tool, and I will naturally want to know how it was written...I am not too familiar with the php code, although do want to create the signature for bike erg meters (there is one that I think Free Spirits made for indoor rowers).

Congratulations, Ron M, on achieving the 200 K Challenge milestone! Congrats also to our latest 100 K level attainers: Minnie, AJ, Ed, Tombeur, Andrew C, Norma and David A!

All In A BIG Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 9.26.2020

Post by Kona2 » September 27th, 2020, 12:24 pm

Image Day 13 of 31 !!!

Here are the current standings: https://log.concept2.com/challenges/ftc/2021/teams

What a big day for the Lunie team yesterday was! Collectively we churned out almost 850,000 meters. During a "regular" season day, we average somewhere in the 390 K range. During the previous days in the Challenge, a big day was 500 to 600 K meters. Virtual cartwheels and high fives for all the extra time and energy everyone bestowed upon the Challenge.

Here's the link the friendly spirits shared:

https://freespiritsrowing.com/challenge ... CS&id=2537

It is good for many things - including keeping track of bigger Challenge team milestones that celebrate who has hit the 200 K milestone and 100 K and 50 K. I still like to call out the names - but am often afraid I might miss someone.

My list says 200 K achieved by Zach, Tony W, and Gary yesterday. 100 K achieved by Robin, Joerg, and JD yesterday.

Zach's palindromic mega is, perhaps, a team record meters for a single day (Brett and Zach may trade this title often). But what is "carrying" us forward is the solid extra effort of all the Lunies - we are going after this Challenge in a Lunie legendary way ! As always, do what you can when you can...but do something!

MILESTONES...Bragging Rights...Celebrations:

3.25 MM Ron M

Very nice! Does your scraper run on an interval, or does it poll the Concept2 site on every page load? I imagine there's some degree of caching involved, otherwise Concept2 will get quite mad and cut you off!

It is doing a combination of some real-time scraping, some caching and some delayed loading of detail until the data is definitely needed. The volume is very low (10s of visits per day) so this won't be impacting C2 compared to their normal loads. The caching is limited because of course the data is changing all the time and the only way to check for a change is to fetch the data, at which point the caching is redundant. There is a Concept2 API to avoid scraping, but it doesn't cover teams or competitions, so for this set of pages it isn't useful.
