The end is near for the WEC ! Galactic smackdown!
Mercy. I'm calling for mercy on this Challenge (not begging yet because the end is near)...harder to fit in all the requisite meters. And for all of you who routinely complete 15K by rower or skierg...you can eat pie every single day..because it is harder than biking. April Fools Challenge might be ending today...but fools we will always be. And goofy.
The Lunies are SO INTO this Challenge. The EAGLE has hit the virtual waters in round two, but I'll be whatever'd if I can figure out what place she's in. All I know is that at least 8 intrepid souls have finished the 500 m piece for the first, second or maybe third time and they are all glad to be done with it. Heart rates racing, and how can it be possible to sweat so much with a two (or less than two minute for some of you!) minute push, you have triumphantly risen from the seat of the rower and given a true WHOOP of delight...once you had breath in you to do that. And just like First Evers, these moments of triumph are much harder to find as an adult, but dang...you're all good! Good work, Lunies! Go get em. We have some STRONG teammates.

Finished April fools challenge and got my 1m goal for the World Erg challenge this morning. Been watching Dark Horse Rowing videos on YouTube and working on speed this afternoon. I know several people have been asking about damper settings. I tried something I saw on a video.
Minutes/damper setting/stroke rate/recorded pace
6/10/16/2:02.6
5/8/20/1:54.6
4/6/24/1:52.1
3/4/28/1:50.8
2/2/32/1:49.2
I took 3 minutes rest between each interval and went at maybe 90-95% of max intensity. I expected that I could create a faster pace with higher damper settings. After the experiment, I definitely felt more comfortable and more explosive at the lower damper settings. I expect I won't go over 4 for my next 500m attempt. I'd recommend trying some different damper settings and stroke rates to get a better feel about what works best for you.

Do you happen to have the drag factor value for each of those rows? I do all my pieces, regardless of distance, at a drag factor of 120. I might try dropping that for my next 500m, that could let the start be more explosive.

Thank you! I'm pretty proud of myself. I've never been a big fan of exercise, but I seem to have found my thing. Huge credit to this team and the challenges for keeping me motivated! Y'all are amazing!
Well done Heather, and also to Brett on 5M...Cheers, Baz (30c forecast in the Harbour City today, were not letting go of summer yet...

I don’t have it here at home since I’m on my phone and that’s a lot of work. I encourage you to experiment a bit. I was surprised by the results.

Drag factor, damper settings....Concept2 has some how to tips on these things ...for those of us who need to get a grip on some aspects of our Performance Monitors that we might have glossed over, here's the link to what's on their website:

Shaved another few seconds off. Breaking 1:40 is going to be a challenge for me. I still think I can do it.

Really pleased with that effort. My best time in a year which isn't hard as it's only the second time I've done a 500M row over the last 12 months. Definitely more to give but I have contributed!! 2:09 - really hope to get under 2:07 without pushing stupidly and risking injury again!! Small steps!

It's a wrap !!
Congratulations to all the Lunie WEC Team of 95! Over 18 Million Meters were generated in the month long Challenge!
Hallelujah! This one is done!
Looks like about 2400 people completed the April Fool's Challenge in the Concept2 Universe! Not sure how many Lunies - there isn't a search function by affiliation on this one!
I might have to give the Concept2 team a call for some assistance - can't do what it says we should be able to do, which is to move the crew around. We have three partial boats (MERCURY, APOLLO, DISCOVERY) and one (EAGLE) on the virtual waters. I did submit a HELP ME request.

I attempted my first ever 500M this morning. I normally row at around 135 drag factor. I reduced it to 124 for this attempt. I rowed a 1:39.3 which is much faster than I thought possible. I am going to make several more attempts and I am hoping to shave 1.5 to 2 seconds off of that. I'm definitely no ERG sprinter, but I love the challenge leading me to try something new. Great stuff.

It's really cool that we're in the same competition as Olympic champions.

Hey Ron, nice improvement from over 1:49 to 1:47. I hope to have one more better time (but not today!). To celebrate your improvement, I dug up a Civil War photograph of the U.S.S. Monitor - with a little bit of rowing involved.

It is certainly compelling.
Congratulations on the 5 Mil, by the way. That’s a massive amount of meters.

In preparation for next week's challenge, I did a 90% to 95% effort 30 minute row tonight. Tonight/Tomorrow/Saturday would be great days to knock one out, so that when the first attempt can be made on Monday you're zeroed in on your pacing!
