WHAT IS MASTERS ROWING
A rower may compete as a masters rower from the beginning of the year during which he or she turns 27. Masters rowers are then placed in categories A to M, 'A' being an average of 27 years or over, and 'M' being an average of 89 years or over. Dependent on the age they turn that year, the masters rower will then compete against others with the same average age in the respective category. The average and minimum age of a crew competing excludes that of the coxswain.
For the Challenge purposes, I just put us all in Open boats - not youth or University level.

Re: About the Spring Series
I'll take that leap with you, and hope it works out. But, having looked at the hoops required to "verify" a result, I for one won't be in that boat.
Slow and Steady is my pace, so it seems,
Slow and Steady wins the race, in my dreams.

Verification Required For The Series
For teammates with the PM3 and PM4, you might want to practice doing the sequence below. If you're entering your info manually, you're going to need to enter the verification code, too. Verification codes are REQUIRED for Spring Series participation.
I've talked with three different Concept2 people (one by email). They are consistent in their messaging, all understood what we are trying to do to make this accessible to all. The Concept2 team designed the Spring Series primarily for High School and University rowers. These young bucks and buckettes are going to be setting their indoor rowers on FIRE. The rest of us will look in amazement at their numbers and think "dang, hope they have a good scholarship!" That said, we still get to participate. Because Concept2 is getting more and more participants, they are going to be requiring verification codes more and more for Challenges. This automation makes it easier for Concept2 to bring us new Challenges - and THERE WILL BE MORE NEW CHALLENGES. While Reindeer Season is a long way away (willing that the creek don't rise and that viral stuff doesn't "get us"), one item to put on your list since we're not spending a lot of $$ is a PM5 monitor. It will make the verification easier. When my card reader failed, I finally did the upgrade on my rower to a PM5. The bike erg arrived with one. All of this is another way to help Concept2 keep us in the erging game - especially now when we really need it.
Citroen lists how to do the verification one way below. You can also hook your monitor to your computer with a USB cable. I have dogs running back and forth while I am erging, and this might be fraught with danger. If your PM3 or 4 is hooked up to your computer, it saves you the veriifcaiton code step.

Before you start the workout make sure the date is correct (top right corner of the PM4). If it isn't right you won't get a valid verification code.
Press the following buttons on the PM4
More Options | ●
Memory | ●
List by Date | ●
Scroll down to find the workout.
Press the magnify button
Press the fourth grey button twice.
Take a photo with your phone there's 16 characters in the top right that are your verification code.

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Now that I have received my new Log Card, if I'm reading this correctly I shouldn't need to do anything to verify as I upload via USB cable using the Concept 2 Utility - hopefully I've got it right...?

Baz- You’ve got it right!
Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Actually, I just checked my logbook and workouts uploaded via Concept 2 utility have "verified" recorded against the workout (PM4 Monitor). And ones that I uploaded manually prior to my new log card aren't.
The only question is how do I identify which workout I am contributing to the challenge, especially if I row the required workout more than once...? I'm sure this will work out one way or the other, in the least it should be fun, and thanks to Kona for taking time to look into it.

Spring VIII Series
I'm looking forward to the Spring VIII Series to challenge me to try for time rather than for distance for a change, it should blow out some cobwebs, although I am terrified of the shorter distances, it has been a long time since I have done them seriously, and my body sets out as if it can still perform as well as it did 20 years ago when I first got on a Concept2
... but it can't...
There has been quite a lot of confusion about verifying times, so I thought I would add my experience (although the link provided a few times does go to a page that says it all).
Verifying a row is possible (for anyone with PM3 or later) by entering the row in the log book, then editing it by clicking on the pencil next to the entry. There will be an option to verify (but only if the entry is for one of the official rankable workouts, eg 2000m, 30 mins etc, the option is hidden for palindromes etc
). The date, distance and duration must exactly match what is displayed on the PM for verification to succeed.
If you have a USB cable (I received a six foot one with the rower, but for a PM3 and old cable used by a printer with a square plug would work), you can connect and upload from the card or memory using the Concept2 utility running on a Windows PC (sorry, no Linux, and limited success with Macs). This can be done in batches, for Mud Madness I uploaded every two or three days, because I did not have a laptop available all the time. As long as you meet submission cutoff dates, the Concept2 log works it all out for you.
It is only programs like Ergdata (iphone or Android) or RowPro that require you to have the erg connected while you are actually rowing. But they do allow you to see extra metrics, like stroke length, that can't be shown on the PM, and will upload more detail to the logbook.
I like the idea of entries being verified, it stops mistakes in data entry. A couple of seasons ago I decided to try and stay on the first page of the meters leaderboard as long as I could, and it was really demotivating to get pushed down by a load of entries claiming to be school aged children in London with ridiculous metres (average of 1 million per day!). Of course verification does not stop people cheating, and glitches in the software do occur, but at least it makes it likely that somebody actually rowed the piece!
A question I have - does anybody know how participants other than the captain can see how things are going? I know I am in boat B, but that is all I can see, I do not even know how many boats we have in total! I realise that crews can change up to the time the captain posts the boat results, but it would be nice to know who we are rowing with, so we can encourage each other....

I still have an PM3, and since it's here in my hallway I am able to connect my old printer cable to it and upload my rowing results to my laptop, which is about 5' away, using the Concept II Utility. I upload every few days or so. I have a PM5 on my wish list for Christmas already
So saying, you're right Baz that by doing it this way the results are "verified". I have the same questions regarding the challenge and how to designate which ones you want to count toward the challenge. I guess you could always rank it and then change the ranking as you improve on your time (that's assuming I can improve on my time).
I'm with you Baz in that it should be fun regardless of the minor details. Thanks Kona for all you do!

Spring Series: Lunie Boats

I talked to Dena H of Concept2 yesterday afternoon - primarily about verification, but she also provided some insight into how rapidly Concept2 has put the Challenge together. The Spring Series information, if you're looking at the LEARN MORE section, is evolving every day. Concept2 has put this together in an intense week or so. It's required a lot of effort as you can imagine. No doubt that the questions we are all asking are fueling some of those changes.
The team captain page contains surprisingly little information. I'm going to post some screenshots of what I see when I log into that page - in the interests of providing as much transparency as I can.
How do we create boats?
You will see on the first screenshot a box that says: add boat. When I clicked on that one, I was asked if it was a guys boat or a gals boat. Depending upon answer, a drop down would appear that showed me all the names of gals/guys who had ever been part of the Lunie team. I could then select the name. If I didn't fill the boat, it would say "create" under the Round column - and wouldn't allow me to save the people I had already put in there. So in a totally unscientific application, I just picked people who had been erging pretty regularly for the last couple of months. After all, we can move people around from boat to boat, and add people up until the deadline for that round's entry. First round entry posting closes April 13.

Edit Boat - that allows me to rename the boat.
The second screenshot just shows that we have 5 guys' and 2 gals' boats - numbers of boats based on team demographics.

How does a teammate get into a boat?
This is where there appears to be some conflicting information. The third screenshot, available on the Challenge LEARN MORE page to everyone, shows that once a captain has created boats, then anyone can hop into a team boat from their team page. Other sentences seem to imply that I have to be asked to put someone in the boat. That's when I just cut to the chase and put people in there.
How do we designate which result to use if there are multiple results for a round from a teammate?
The third screenshot about team captains says that I will be able to see teammates results - and naturally I will pick the best of the efforts for that round. It also allows for moving people from boat to boat so that we can get the speediest boat into the water. So it doesn't really matter which boat it says you are in - the list of picking people is alphabetical by first name - and I merely went down the list knowing that I could move people around.

No doubt that on Monday, the first day of Round One, we'll be able to see some different amounts of information.

thanks for all that you are always doing for our rowing family :-}
