Heather 13,492 m - might be a combination of two days

Every meter upload helps! Sometimes when I'm out of sequence on the "when" of putting the postings together, one can remain standing all alone on the page....meaning that I have missed it. Don't hesitate to ask.

Some really great updates today, too! Keep going, and don't forget about your January Revolution goals! Only you will see how you're doing on them, and darn it if seeing that I'm 16 minutes shy of getting my hour for the day isn't going to make me get back on the bike erg! I've chosen "The Haul" which is 15 hours in the month of January...but trying to get an hour a day done.

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 1.10.2020

Current Challenge Team Standings: https://log.concept2.com/challenges/vtc/2020/teams

Yep, one third of the way into this Challenge (two-thirds of opportunity remain!)...and we're getting nudged along by the Ancients. Again. In the Challenge individual rankings, Tom Odle has overtaken Darlene by almost 67 K...but it is a long Challenge and it is difficult to maintain the grinding pace that those two are bringing to the erg every.single.day. Hall of Erging Famers, both of them. Meanwhile, BigBrett is setting his own mega meter pace with Ron and Gary not too far behind. Without the whole team, though, we wouldn't be in virtual team spot # lucky 7. Keep moving the chains, and don't put up a zero.

Current Challenge Team Standings: https://log.concept2.com/challenges/vtc/2020/teams

The Lunie Challenge team just topped FIVE million meters! Incredible efforts by all ! A tsunami of milestones is happening just about daily, and we have a new teammate. Welcome Johan of the Faroe Islands. Geography not always being my strong suit, I had to look up where these islands are. Perhaps you will too.

Just about anything with "cosmic" or "rocketship" gets my attention...but have to admit, I was surprised to find both associated with a new variety of apple!

Image

Coming to a grocer near you...and on 12 MM trees in Washington State. Cosmic Crisp apples, a new variety of apple decades in the making, has its own marketing budget in the millions. A cross between Honeycrisp Apples and Enterprise (I think) apples, these are BIG apples. It's not every apple that gets its own rocketship!

Oops! I have been suffering some computer issues. I suspect some older rows that I had entered manually last year got uploaded from my card again, I will have to track down the duplicates....

My total for the challenge should be 86,582m, and that is all that should have been uploaded.

Looks like I am going to have to go for the 1 million again :) .

My daughter, Maddie M, has joined the team this week. She's 12 years old. This morning, she joined me in the rotation of skiing, rowing, and biking while watching CNBC at my office. I think she's a little young to start a rigorous exercise regime, but I'll bring her as often as she wants to go.

Delighted to see that some of our Challenge Team members are also choosing to join the year round affiliation team! Welcome to Becky, and Joerg (who becomes our 31st meter millionaire) !! We wish you much good camaraderie and many good erging sessions!

For those who might be near Flagstaff, AZ during February 15-18, 2020, there's an astronomy festival that may catch your interest:

Image

Back in 1930, Clyde Tombaugh discovered the then planet Pluto using a blink comparator at the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff.

Pictured below, the blink comparator is actually a microscope that compares two photographic plates - plates that were of specific star fields. A mirror flipped between two beams of the microscope ... or blinked. Comparing the two plates would identify an object that was moving among all the thousands of stars in the star field.

I see her on the Challenge team now. When I first looked, it had not updated (or I hadn't or something!).
