Lisa,

I grew up in Long Beach, so I know about the Santa Ana's. In the 90's my parents had a condo at the Lawrence Welk Resort in Escondido, so we'd bring the kids to Southern California every summer for 5 days at the beach (boogie boarding mostly at La Jolla shores) and visiting Disneyland. What wonderful memories (except for the sting rays). The lines at DL never bothered us; it trapped the kids so they were forced to communicate with us! The kids are grown, and I lost both of my parents in the past few years, so we haven't made another trip to Southern California since the last funeral. I really miss it, especially my 5 days per year at the beach. If I don't lose at least another 5 pounds, I won't be able to get back into my wet suit! I'd better keep rowing!

Linda,

I'm so sorry for your loss... :( I still have my Mom left and am lucky she lives very near.

Keep on rowing! That wetsuit doesn't stand a chance! ;) And we'll keep Disneyland warm for you!

Hey, Pat, Chris, and James don't slow down on my account, I'm going for the cup, and don't give any handicap meters for age :P You guys are pushing hard, my arms are tired, one fell off last night, put it back on with duct tape, I'm talking lots of trash, gonna get me in trouble, but I've been there before  I'm keeping an eye on Lisa coming up the ranks fast.

I wonder what our point spread is in Vegas, the viking outfit is intimidating, but I'm putting money on Cap'n Pat!

Okay, enough talk, I'm going rowing!

I think I might take a rest day tomorrow. This pace is tough. I'm not a fast or really strong rower, so it's just time in the saddle. But, I might just row through all the Pixar films by the end of the challenge.

Hey Lisa, I heard this one Pixar film is really good, it's about this "OLD" toy being tossed aside for a "YOUNGER, HANDSOME" toy!

Pat, Hope your elbow heals, mine hasn't been too bad on the rower. I did get my support and it helps. Still impossible to swing a racket or baseball overhand. Working it out with weights seems to be getting it stronger, but still feels like :x !

And now my latest personal saga, my "best-friend" Mack smashed me in my right eye yesterday with his paw while horsing around, the doctor made a funny when I walked in the office, So which eye is it?! So now I have duct tape holding on my left arm, an elbow support and ice pack on my right arm, and an eye patch on my right eye. All I'm missing is my peg leg! The eye patch does go well with our pirate theme

Linda, you can keep the snow for a while! Makes me cringe, means I need to get busy at work and no more playing hooky! I'll have to get the skis out and start waxing them up! Summer is over

Ok, so I just got caught up on all this chit-chat. I used to live in Long Beach, too! We lived in Belmont Shore while I was in grad school at USC. I loved Southern Cal!!! I particularly like how there is sort of an exercise/fitness culture there. People are outside doing stuff all the time. Here in NE PA, it seems that only a small percentage of people even think about fitness! Isn't that a shame?

It's definitely fall weather here, but no snow! WOW! If we're lucky, we'll see some flurries by Thanksgiving.

Lisa- LOVE your creative Haiku! You are clever!

I'm envious of all of you who are watching movies while you row. My rower sits in my *** DELETE - SPAM *** - it's crazy. We have this small, old farmhouse...I really don't like the house, but we LOVE our property and location, so we'll probably never move. Anyway, there is, unfortunately, no better place for the rower than the *** DELETE - SPAM ***, and there is no TV in the *** DELETE - SPAM ***. There is one TV in the house, and usually it's acting as the babysitter while I row.

Off to my erg...
LET'S GO TEAM!!!

Lisa & Michael, "old age" is a relative term...

Cindy, one of my best friends lived in Belmont Shore. She and her husband still live close to the area. Did you ever attend the Christmas parades on the canals? My step-grandfather and his extended family lived on C Street in Philadelphia. I have fond memories.

Another friend from high school was a song girl at USC. She married Bob Chandler, a great wide receiver who ended up playing with O.J. in Buffalo. My two brothers graduated from UCLA, though, so I guess the only time I'd root for USC would be if they were playing BYU!

I don't have a tv down in the basement with my rower. I have a tiny, portable dvd player & I subscribe to Netflix. I bought the dvd player about 4 years ago, and it was about $100. I've run through tons of English mystery/detective shows and am now working my way through the Mary Tyler Moore Show and NCIS. No Commercials & no late fees!

We have so many sunny days here each year, but this past year has been unusually cloudy & rainy. The snow doesn't come and stay until Halloween (only remember one or two days when the kids didn't have to go out trick or treating in a blizzard). I used footed sleepers as a base for many of their costumes. Needless to say, they were one of a kind!
