OK, I'm going to give it another try with a feeder like yours. I like the clear reservoir and I've got just the place to hang it--close to my red hibiscus.
Good deal, Shaun. You'll enjoy those little hummers buzzing your hibiscus. (I'm surprised you can grow hibiscus. Do you bring it in, come winter, or string lights around it, for warmth?) I bought a couple of these hook thingies, from Lowe's, to hang the feeders from. They're convenient to use with a tree branch, and deter any random ants that are scouting around.
... and, now back to our regularly scheduled rowing forum ... but, Kona started the hummingbird trail! ...

There are times when it would be great to be able to attach a sound clip to the forum...and perhaps this IS possible, but not necessarily a good thing. In between patches of suburbia and open range, the cows have returned for summer grazing. It sounds quite farmy in the midst of all the bird noises (one hesitates to say twitter), as the herd punctuates its munching with a few bellows here and there. Later in the day the neighborhood sound volumes will perhaps drown out these bucolic sounds, but I like this time of day when farmy rules and you can distinguish one bird's tweets from another. Good backdrop for stats!
Meanwhile, we have Howard L and Jean M checking in for the season! Always good to see returning teammates! There is definitely an ebb and flow of meterage seasonally from all of us (except maybe David A who is one of the most disciplined rowers that I know), and some seasons are better than others for each of us. It is great to see a meter posting that signals a milestone that is more of a personal statement that says "I can still throw out these numbers" such as the half marathon that Danno has put out there today. Not sure how long it has been since Danno did a half marathon, but this one was great to see. Danno can indeed dig deep and go after these kinds of numbers...or he wouldn't have 37.7 million lifetime meters....hey...that means we need to keep an eye on him for Orbiter Potential as the season progresses. With the start he's got going, he could reach 40 MM by end of season.
Many of you like to throw out some favorite numbers, or some favorite palindromes...and after the first few times of seeing them, I do wonder what the significance of a specific number might be. Dennis puts out some consistent 13,333 (or similar) numbers that over the course of three days produce another 10K in his totals. Tony will put a Fibonacci sequence out there from time to time...it was quite educational. And some go for the guess-what-this-code-stands-for approach....Richard T was quite good at that one and would use the simple cipher of this letter corresponds to a specific number. Minnie appears to have caught on to that effort...perhaps accidentally...but nevertheless, I have been trained to spot that particular number as significant. So. Keep playing with the numbers!

When you're in search of the Good Life in the Good Land...
Sometimes you just have to ask the experts...and then they, too, have to go hunting! I emailed Concept2 about the motivational game where you rowed (because at that time that's what all the ergs were...rowing machines!) because I couldn't remember the name of it. Time passed while the Concept2 gurus went on a historical search...and voila! they have found items in the archives. Judy Geer says they are still looking for the electronic files, but passed along some photos.
Voyage to Terra Vitae
First, there was the Manifesto! (Note this was pre-international sales focus...)
Then there was the game poster (mine did not look exactly like this...no rower gal on it):
Now, that you have the poster...how do you play it?
Before electronic files and logs:
I do hope they come up with the electronic files...this is a fun one. And look how much Concept2 has evolved in sophistication, technology, and the erg Universe!

Voyage to Terra Vitae looks like fun! Hope they find the electronic files. You could adjust the meters per segment according to your own goals.

Some baseball game losses are harder than others....
Meanwhile, now that the radon reduction vent fan is in place, I can hopefully renew my acquaintance with the rower! Radon mitigation is an interesting process. They cut through the cement slab to reach the soil and move the soil around until they find an air pocket. PVC pipe is inserted, and goes up into the wall where it emerges on house exterior and is connected with a vent fan. The vent fan pulls at the air pocket (which contains the radon gas) and expels it up into the atmosphere where it dissipates...or at least floats elsewhere.
Naturally, I want to share what this looks like now that it is installed. Not everyone can hide the vent fan behind a snowball bush and lilac. Kai the Golden enjoyed "helping" the installer.

Indeed, I do remember the Cabot Challenge! In fact, AJ won one of their lovely gift baskets, on his way to Vegas, which included cheese (doh) and a little wood cheese board. We use the cheese board every morning to put our glass drip coffee carafe on, so the stone counter doesn't drain the heat.
I'm definitely working on my "faster than speeding lava!" We just ordered n95 breathing masks for any time we choose to spend in Kona (not to be confused with Kona2) ... the Big Island forum suggested bringing masks with you and, if you don't need to use them, leave them for the volcano relief efforts. This vacation ... lordy, lordy!

Well k2, glad you're back together with your rower, I must admit since your post about the hazards of Radon, I started feeling a little uneasy about rowing in the basement, so I ordered the self test kit and just found out today that my house passed with a 1.6 pCi/L, so I feel a little better, but still not completely confident that's a safe level to be working out in. Maybe I should look into the n95 mask that Minnie ordered and by the way have fun on your Hawaiian adventure.

That's a great result! You have a well sealed basement! I am set to check levels this weekend after installation complete ...

Whoooooosh! That's the sound of you and your erg flying through ANOTHER month! Egad - we are hurtling through space and time!
Happy June! I'm sure it's National Ice Cream month (oops that's July) - or it should be. I was helping teach a class in bicycling at a local (Lakewood) library last night. One of the gals asked how she could get her kids more interested in riding. We pulled out a Lakewood bike map and I suggested that she put an ice cream icon on all the trails that were near an ice cream shop, or burgers, etc., etc., etc. This baiting tactic usually works really well.....but the reality is, if the adults do this too, it's a lot easier. Although for adults, and young somethings, we suggest riding to microbreweries and lunch spots (remembering that the same laws on impaired driving are applicable to cyclists). Cheers!

Yes, it is
! Will be getting out once or twice weekly and dealing with the heat, humidity and other bugaboos that go along with being on the water. Primarily single paddling, both canoe & Surfski. Erging is much more convenient and you don't get thrown off by waves from river barges
! Will do a few races, definitely the 60 mile Freedom Race on June 30th. Sacroiliac issue is a real pain in the patoot, so will have to see how that responds...
