Welcome Jane! We are ever so glad to "see" you on our team! Just the completion of the HM is impressive ... and then you go and blow us away with the time!

We're all on this lunar mission together so welcome aboard our virtual boat! Be advised that on this lunar mission, we are indeed "looney" all year round, so don't hesitate to contribute to our looney fun!

Great rowing today team mates! I had to check my math when I looked at team standings, then saw it said 51 instead of 50! Day 2 of March Madness is looking up!

Okay, Danny-Boy (Irish theme for March) ... I'm officially conceding any imagined competition with you ... you've left me floundering in the shallows while you zoom toward, like 27,000,000 meters this month! (But May 1 is right around the corner ... ) B)

Chris,
My Irish mother-in-Law says there are only two kind of people; those that are Irish and those who wish they were.

Sorry about the surge but I have become obsesed with the 5 Mil mile stone and want to get it out of the as quickly as poosible then I can return to my senses. Should be over in about 3 days. Can we still be friends. I still can only come close to your HM time all the rest way to good. I am more the turtle. Thanks for the push it was a great help.

Looking forward to May 1 and end to this madness. May zeros reign again.

Also, for KONA2 that was a two day total 20,134 Sunday and 10 K Monday AM. I normally do not upload until the evening row is over but this morning I had a chance to more ahead of Steven L, even if only for a few minutes. I will return to my routine tonight.

Uh huh. I did notice you've thrown down a glove to Steven. Not that there is a healthy competitive element in this here team! Will there be balloons, cupcakes, and much rejoicing when you reach 5 mil! (No, wait, you're a DDS, ixnay on the cupcakes.) Seriously though, great job. :D

Chris,

Last night on Discovery Channel they had a great program, 1st in series, "The Human Body, Pushing the Limits" , Part 1: Strength & Endurance. Amazing facts about training, strength, endurance and weight loss. Main points exercise sessions that produce less than a 4% weight loss (this would be water loss) rehydration with water ok. When weight loss reaches 4% or last longer than two hours electrolyte replacement is necessary (Gatorade e.g.). And the main main point weight loss due to fat burning does not start until you are into the activity for about 4 hours.

You can see where this is going. I see marathon training in our future; in order to burn our fat stores. Not sure I can make that commitement.

What a weighty topic!

Post by Kona2 » March 3rd, 2008, 3:50 pm

You probably watched the program while rowing, too. Seems like this could be a bit misleading with the four hour mark prior to fat burning. I am assuming this means you use up your carbo stores in about four hours, then you start getting your energy from stored fat.

What a weighty topic!

Dan, according to my new math, you have (69,720 m) to go to hit 5MM meters - which at your current speedboat rate will be Wednesday. So when the dial hits 1,477,547 - you will be a 5 Million Meter Man. With a new t-shirt and whatever other goodies you receive for this. What if this FEEDS the obsession instead of quelching it???

I could see that happening, these long rows are starting to get addicting. When the odemeter rolls over to 5,000,000 I'll have all those pesky zeros tp get rid of. I have learned to hate zeros.

The first 2 hours you run on glycogen stored in the muscles, then carbs and finally fat. Even if I can burn excess fat located around the middle I'll still be old and bald. But, I guess 1 out 3 isn't bad. Major league baseball players go to Hall hitting with those numbers.

I am normally up early around 4 but this morning decide to get 5k in since I won't be able to row this evening. Nothing wants to move very fast. But then again after dinner is tough with a full belly. Tim Porter

Way to go Luna-Tics! We're out of this world! We had a whopping 41 percent of our oars in the virtual waters! Team participation !!

Season to date (through day 309!) = 31,560,092 m

Total meters for Day 3 of March Madness = 196,078 m

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Milestones!!

1.5 MM Tony P
1.4 MM Steven L

And the Pot of Gold goes to:

Noelle B 21,102 m

Barb G 16,415 m

5 MM Watch (Lifetime Meters):

Dan's entered the red zone with less than 50 K to go (49583 m)!!

Noelle B has also entered the red zone with less than 50 K to go (46,878 m)! How close are you to the 4 MM lifetime meters mark?

And, as others have noted in this forum, overuse injuries take a REALLY long time to recover from! Take a break when you need to do so!

what do the daily shamrocks mean - I'm guessing it's the # of team members who met the 5K challenge??

Love seeing people meet personal goals.

Since I didn't much row early on this season  , I've yet to make it to even the 1500 daily meter board. I'm now at 1481 avg daily meters - that's my next goal...should be there in 2-3 days :D . Next season, I'll be on the 5K board!
