Thanks for all the million-meter congrats! And thanks, Dan, for the elephant in sheep's clothing. A dust bath is an insect repellant I haven't tried yet.

i just want to stop in and say hi from ginny...many luna-tics remember darryl aka the duluthmoose who unfortunately passed away a while ago.....i'm facebook friends with ginny, darryl's widow... and she hopes we are doing well in our travels to the moon...she also remembers how much darryl enjoyed being a luna-tic :}

not a lot of rowing for me...between some tweeks in my leg and a marathon on the 9th, i may not row again until my recovery...but i'll still be cheering everyone on :]

After that I did a cross fit workout. Here is how it went. Power clean 105 pounds every minute for 16 minutes. First minute you do 1 rep 2nd minute you do 2 3rd 3 so on up to 16 minutes . It was very very tough for this old man. Point of this is I have been losing weight but it is the aging factor Muscle. So to fight father time i will do less cardio and more weight lifting. The other day when bringing in groceries a young man walked bye asked if I needed any help :lol: I said no but thank you anyways. Where was this kid when I needed to move all my furniture when they did floors
Richard, I have to tell you, this post has stuck in my head ever since I first read it. As far as I'm concerned, it's pretty damn inspiring that it took that many 105 pound power cleans before realizing something was amiss. I know for me, I seem to have to keep making concessions, so I really liked hearing your No concessions attitude. Recently, I noticed quite a bit of trouble when rowing the day after what I considered a pretty typical weights workout for me. Experiencing some amount of muscle soreness is okay, actually desirable, but recently it seemed I would turn into a basket case without an extra day's rest. Still playing with the resolution to that one. And my rowing times have certainly taken a hit in more recent years. But for me, it's the knees, not stamina, that is driving that. If I push too hard, my knees seem to push back harder. I tried doing it anyway - how bad could it get - well, pretty bad, and without an indication that I hit bottom yet. Then there's that ever elusive form improvement - if there is one, it's still eluding me. Then there's just acceptance... and taking some comfort in the old glass half empty or half full story... but does it trouble anybody else that they never seem to extend the metaphor? What about a glass 1/4 full, or 1/10 full? At would point do they say, Dude, I think your glass is empty. Well, I guess I plan to keep going as long as there's a splash left, and I'm counting on you to lead the charge.

Thinking more about this aging thing... I remember a story my father told me a long time ago. These college athletes walk into a bar, all full of brag and swagger. One of them jumps on top of the bar from a standing position. One of the regulars was not impressed, and said I bet that old man over there can jump higher than you. The old man was Jim Thorpe ... Probably not a true story, but it will inspire me until I'm done.

Jim Thorpe was my Idle growing up. Burt Lancaster was awesome in the Movie. I must of watched that movie 100 times.

Whoooooosh! It's the sound of you and your erg flying through ANOTHER month.

Power clean....to me that means getting out the power washer, but I am sure that this is another one of those eyes glazed over in the hardware store moments...but I know that this is a crossfit weight room kind of thing. Whew.

Image Sign on...sign on...sign on!

Leaves aren't falling (much) just yet, but those tell tale splotches of color are starting to show. Time to plot those fall scenic drives - naturally working them in between your rowing, ski-erging and bike-erging episodes! Even better if you can plan a mid-week viewing escape to avoid the herds.

One of the best things about erging is that you can put in whatever effort you've chosen to do, and you're already back at your starting destination. This is clearly not the case with biking. There's a whole network of regional trails being added on to connect up to local urban trails - and a few social trails (those pathways people create because it's the shortest distance between two points, regardless of what DOT thinks). The issue is SIGNAGE is not only spotty, sometimes it is non-existent. Decided to get a bit of a training ride in yesterday and combine it with some exploration. Snort. I KNEW where I was - I just couldn't figure out how to get to the actual trails when going through some of the urban areas. Not all expeditions are successful on first go round.

Image

And speaking of planning leaf viewing excursions, while I originally thought that one of the peaks viewed from Berthoud Pass was the inspiration for one of the iconic Coors mountain scene logos, it turns out that it's Mt Wilson which is located in Lizard Head Wilderness in the Uncompaghre National Forest in the San Juan Mountains.

Thanks, everyone, for rowing and ski-erging and bike-erging with us!

You live in such a beautiful State. If I'm still above ground next year I'm going to consider Pedal The Plains
