I use 3M Ultrathon Insect Repellent Lotion, along with an overspray of OFF familycare unscented. Because I attract the skeeters, even though I'm completely covered, I carry them into the house and the rest of the family gets bitten inside. Makes me really popular.

Gee, Doug, the Sawyer picardin product comes in a half-gallon pump dispenser. Sounds like just the thing for me!

Quite a variety of repellents listed by all - including some I hadn't heard of before! Looking up Sawyer's led me to a consumer report page...and I found that one of the products that I had been using (because it didn't smell so woodsy) was rated in the lower third of the bunch. No wonder I kept hearing the instantly recognizable, high-pitched bzzzzz that says "Danger danger!" See how your repellent of choice is rated in this report: http://www.consumerreports.org/products ... -overview/

Meanwhile, I will have to try the whistling tea pot route to see if the dog who will not come when called (unless there is something scary out there) will respond to that whistle.

Boaters, campers abound in this somewhat remote (except on holiday weekends) mountain location. Portable internet is a good thing.

Yep I also am very allergic to these little pest. all my doctors say they haven't seen a reaction to a mosquito like mine.Pics are a little ugly so don't open if you're squeamish.
Ohmygoodness, that's a terrible reaction. I'm overly suspicious of most chemical-laden repellents, and these happy-hippy home remedies seem to work quite well ... even with our beer-drinking and common blood type citizens:

1. an oscillating fan or two, blowing air across where you're sitting ... mosquitoes are apparently wimps against a headwind.
2. fabric softner sheets. Yes, nothing but chemicals, but you don't have to rub them on your skin. Just have a sheet of Bounce hanging out of your pocket, or attached to the back of your chair.
3. dish soap ... placed in a saucer, on or under the table. Works as well as the ubiquitous citronella candles.
4. Marshmallow fluff with garlic cloves. (Just kidding ... that one's for bg.)

Obviously, this is more for the back yard al fresco dining group, more than the field and stream adventurers.

That is so brilliant. So is this how it works Chris? The fan blows the pests to bounce off your chair into a bowl of soapy water and drown. I'm sorry I could not resist.

Uh huh. Snort. It's kind of the domino theory of mosquito control. Don't forget the marshmallow-garlic end game.

In a blend of what Minnie refers to as my fringe comics, and well wishes for Shaun...here's episode 77 of Shaun the Sheep....An Ill Wind....
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2ue7qs

There's a good multi-use (hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing) trail that continues to open additional sections from Fraser-Granby CO. Thought I would check out a mile or few of it yesterday, using the exploration as an opportunity to give the young pups a good walk. Parking near the Snow Mountain Ranch (a YMCA of the Rockies site) as a starting point, we hit the trail. Old skis mark the trail near Snow Mountain Ranch, and while it was a blue sky day...weather was incoming. Plan on checking out the Fraser start of the trail on a bike...the descriptor sounds like it would be a good one...although sections can be closed in November for elk migration...find a trail near you (with or without large animal migrations)!

From the MTB Project Page: "The trail officially starts at Kopper Park however, you're not missing much if you park at the Fraser baseball fields about 1/2 mile north. The first 8.4 miles will have you rolling through Fraser Valley on county roads and sections of dual track. On a sunny days the views of old mining homesteads and surrounding peaks are fantastic. "

Thanks, Richard! It's just a bug that most would shake off in 24 hours. With my immune system being not up to snuff, it's taking longer than I'd like. Hoping to be back on the rower soon.

I was just watching stage 4 tour. The finish reminded me of Daytona Last lap. Or when I raced motocross Make you self as wide as you can be elbows up and out. What I don't understand is You get one winner in the end. Its a team sport. I think it would be better and a lot safer. with less riders. No protective equipment New rules need to be put in place 40mph+. I don't think the best man always wins i think the best team does. As usual Just my 2 cents. I'm sure i will get heat about this
