It's National Trails Day here in the US, and there is sure to be SOMETHING cool going on in your locale! So if you're up for adventure today, get out there! You might encounter the Pie of Opportunity or the Flying Saucer of Possibility when free ranging your Bunny of Exuberance...especially if using your Eyeball of Observation.

btw...on sunday, i ran 16 of my 19 miles....oops...i'm supposed to be tapering for a 50k trail ultra.....on a rail trail....since it was paved does that count for national trails day??? btw...i think tomorrow is global run day :}

Our journey's destination = Earth's moon !

Image Image Another Episode.....there's a rabbit in the moon...

Image Gooooo Norma!

I was thinking about Norma navigating the seas, alter ego Shaun ever present, with the moon in the backdrop of her hard-earned Bathtub Brigade of a previous Virtual Challenge. AJ's artwork shows a good image of our destination Moon...and before I knew it, the bunny trail started with the seas of the Moon. There are 22 of them, and one ocean. The Sea of Tranquility is the one that many of us remember from the first lunar landing, Apollo 11 with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.

Image
Six lunar landings to date, and six splashdowns - recovery of the moon men performed by four different aircraft carriers. Pictured is the USS Hornet, aircraft carrier responsible for the first two lunar capsule recoveries. The USS Hornet is now docked in Alameda, CA and is the USS Hornet: Sea, Air and Space Museum. And where is Alameda, CA? Set your GPS for Oakland and San Francisco. And, if you're interested in spacecraft capsule or module recovery missions: Moon Men Return: USS Hornet and the Recovery of the Apollo 11 Astronauts by Scott Carmichael tells quite a story.

ImageBut wait. There's something else that made this a cosmic connection. A short distance across the water from Alameda Island is a Bay Farm Island, home to Oakland International Airport. Bay Farm Island has the only pedestrian/bicycle-only drawbridge in the US. It spans the inlet to the San Leandro Bay from the San Francisco Bay. It's 14 feet by 750 ft in length. When you go to San Francisco, maybe you think of cable cars and Alcatraz. Now you can go across the Bay and experience another adventure (and catch up on your space history). The Shoreline Drive loop looks to be a very scenic bike ride to add to my future list. Here's the bike bridge Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPQwxj596Zk

Snort. There was a bunny trail to follow...and there are only six...but I hadn't called one of them out.
