Speaking of things learned...

It is kind of amazing how small changes can produce unanticipated BIG effects. A day or so before riding the Bike MS150 a few years back, I decided to taper off from biking and thought "I'll just give this elliptical machine" a try. I couldn't believe how much muscle pain I was in the next day. You would have thought I'd had a bike crash, not an elliptical adventure. Of course, this "small change can equal big result" is a strategy we advocacy types also employ to make other things happen! But, we're Lunies, and sometimes we just throw ourselves into the spirit of the thing! Hmm...overall, while there are often unintended consequences...I do often employ the "full speed ahead and damn the torpedos" approach.

congrats lunies for all the amazing rowing :] and one piece of advice that is always offered before running marathons is do not try anything new right be for race day :}

Well in the true Canadian way I shall say "I'm sorry". No K2 I just don't have a moon in me right now. I am slowly working on bringing down my pace on shorter distances. I say it most seasons lately but this season I'd like to compete at least in Toronto if not Boston. As a sightless wonder I need to do the 1K. To do this I need a lot more power My CV needs to pick up a lot too. Sadly when I do a long session I tend to row around a 2:30 pace which I can hold for quite a while. It is not challenging really but does allow me to put in the meters as needed. This season I decided my only goal is to keep my daily average around 8K to give me a 3 million season. My fitness goal is to get stronger for more powerful strokes. Oh the gym I had when I had my house. I sure miss that gym. Anyway, I shall do what I can with what I have.

I am very impressed watching the team page and seeing the meters getting banked. I'm still here and with you just not at the higher meters I've done before. Um, this could change of course but I will do my best to stick to my guns.

May we all be luny enough to reach our goals no matter what it takes.

Rock on my friends.

The very last thing I felt like doing today was getting on the rower, I was lazing about when I happened to check out the team room and this came across (perfect timing). It motivated me to at least put in a few meters. Right from the start this whole group has always been hugely supportive, caring, and motivating (nothing has changed in my time away). I appreciate it so much, and would like to thank everyone.

Snooooooow! That's snow with a noooooo in the middle! Life in the Rockies is predictably unpredictable....but "they" said it was safe to plant your garden after Mother's Day!!

Image ! Thank you, Restless, for telling us that the carrot had the power that I hoped it would have!

We have entered the Time Between. While this might sound Whovian (and it might be), the time between Challenges is usually one or maybe two weeks. Except after the Global Marathon Challenge. There are 37 days between the end of the GMC and that most auspicious of days...the Summer Solstice, that near the longest day of the year Challenge (but it usually isn't exactly that day) that leads us to the beginning of the Time of the Darkness. If you're planning on doing the 21,000 m (cumulative is ok vs having to do it all at once on June 21st), and you have a goal of completing all the Challenges this year....well, you have to keep your erg game going.
And there is also the lure of Image and Image

Image Another episode...

Carrot theme seems a natural for episodes of Bunny Trails of the Mind...and hooboy! did this carrot business ever lead me down the trail. This time the trail led from Denver Botanic Gardens all the way to Pai, Thailand. Not sure what led me to look for carrots on the moon, but I did. Turns out that there is a hostel and a cafe called Carrot on the Moon...which goes well with the Moon Carrot plant here in Denver Botanic Gardens.

Image The lunar connection grows...

Image Speaking of growing...I might have to go look at these in midsummer (if they aren't frozen out...)

I hear you, Restless! Some evenings, the only thing that gets me on the rower is the thought of today's challenge, or tomorrow's forum posting. Carrots optional. (Though, if I happened to be in Thailand, I'd definitely visit Carrot on the Moon.) That moon carrot plant looks like Queen Anne's Lace ... all members of the carrot family?

Wishing for a blue sky day! Was signed up for a bike event in Loveland, CO this weekend - and it's been curtailed in scope due to snowfall ! Ha - I can use the time to get rid of the branches that snapped under the weight of the ongoing snow.

Image And the thundering herd is back at the track for today's running of the Preakness...6:45 pm ET here in the US. While it seems like just yesterday that Always Dreaming ran off with the Kentucky Derby crown, it's been a few weeks and here we are ready for the second race in the Triple Crown of horse racing. Will it be Classic Empire, Always Dreaming, or maybe Conquest Mo Money? The Preakness is 9.5 furlong (1 3/16 miles)race run on a dirt track...in erg distances, that's 1900 m...and Secretariat holds the record at 1:53:0 ... we won't see that broken today.

Meanwhile, back at the Concept2 track, our teammates are bustin some moves ! As always, we have a variety of distances sprinkled throughout the stats - and that is truly a good thing. Something for everybody. But wowzer...there's a lotta mooning going on!

Congratulations Andrew and David T !!! Just back from visiting family and friends in NY. Carrot was getting mighty blurry during drive home. Maybe a few meters a little later will help bring it into focus.
