Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
I was invited to a friend’s place last night. Cab was called and out the door I went. I didn’t know it was raining on perfectly sheer ice on the 4 concrete steps I have to go down with no rails. I went down alright. Slight sprain to right wrist Left not as bad but lost a wee bit of skin. Now the right butt on the other hand. That made rowing a bit uncomfortable this morning. Took a while to find my white cane that was still in my back pocket when I took the ride. The wrist already feels a lot better. I guess having a beer and playing guitar last night will do that. As far as I’m concerned I got off easy. I am glad to hear that all is fine in the Lune world. K2, wow! You are one tough lady.Edscapade wrote:Ditto all the above! Hope you are healing well, Thor....definitely the time of year for more slips and falls. One "ice walker tool" that I have used is something called Yaktrax, which is a pattern of coils that slips over your shoes or boots and provides good traction on snow and ice. I hadn't thought about a folding cane, but this makes good sense for portability! Glad there are healing properties to beers and guitar playing!

No new reindeer for the last couple of days, but Lunies are circling the reindeer paddock and claimings will happen soon! We do, however, have some newly blinged reindeer who have earned their antler lights! Congratulations to Stuart, Peter G (palindromic man), and Dennis on earning the 200K Challenge level (and the coveted Holiday Challenge pin), and $6 in donations. Overall, the Concept2 piggy bank stands at $23,500 - which means it's in good shape to make goal in five days (including today).

And speaking of lights, the Winter Solstice is upon us. Remember the Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark movie where the use of a crystal on a staff as the sun rose projected a beam that told of where the secret chamber was? Not surprisingly, that illumination "trick" is one that mirrors other places and solstices in history - particularly western Europe. Most of these solstice places are megaliths like Stonehenge...but did you know about Newgrange in County Meath, Ireland or Maeshowe in Scotland? In both Newgrange and Maeshowe, in the days surrounding the Winter Solstice the winter sun strikes a roof box (at least in Newgrange) and illuminates a passage into the tomb or cairn. Art imitates life?
