Whoop, whoop and woohoo! Many of us remember watching the TV show The Six Million Dollar Man and ace test pilot Steve Austin, rebuilt as a bionic man after a near fatal crash. Ron's had to fight his own way back after a hand injury, and looks like he has been wildly successful! Congratulations to a Lunie Six Million Meter Man! We wish you many, MANY more!
woooooooo hooooooooo and congrats :]

Congratulations Ron! Made me laugh K2 - my younger brother acted like the six million dollar man... The problem was he ran in slow motion all the time.

Happy rowing,

Ed
Ed, that meant your brother was going no where fast. I hope things changed for him. Grin.
I was in touch with our row bro Ron telling him of our well wishes on the 6 million. He is having trouble yet again with the forum. He asked me to pass on a hello and thanks.
This makes me the Miky in the middle I do believe.

Image We're in 7th !

1 FRENCH INDOOR ROWERS TEAM Virtual 15,303,854m 208 73,576m
2 Age Without Limits Virtual 14,634,598m 168 87,111m
3 Community Fitness Pointe of Munster, In. Health/Fitness 14,096,982m 325 43,375m
4 Free Spirits Virtual 13,705,803m 135 101,524m
5 Greenville Indoor Rowing Health/Fitness 9,937,464m 163 60,966m
6 Overcoming disAbilities Virtual 9,465,227m 19 498,170m
7 LUNA-TICS Virtual 7,553,764m 81 93,256m

Our seasonal teammates, Overcoming disAbilities, are nearing the half million milestone for the Challenge in the average meters per team member stat. There are two "teams" ahead of them, one team has 2 people and one has 4. Personally, I think it is much harder to maintain a high meter per team member average with a larger team. You have to have a really committed group of folks to make it work. So well done, OD. Yep, the high road.

Image Another episode....

Image Tomorrow is the fourth Square Root Day of the century....

It's another Math Holiday! What? If you've not heard of Math Holidays, well you must be a newbie. We celebrate them...from Pi Day to Mole Day to Fibonacci Day...and now Square Root Day. Square Root Days (there are nine of them in a century as you would imagine) occur when the day, month, year form a square root. Since some of us may wish to put a square root day number into the mix for our meter piggy banks tomorrow, thought I would bring this up today. You could erg meter amounts of 4416, 5525, 6636, 7749, 8864, or 9981 for example. So many choices! Favorite quote about Math Holidays (from Ron Gordon): These days are like calendar comets---you wait and wait and wait for them, then they brighten up your day--and poof--they're gone!

Of course, just thinking about how to "draw" the square root image sent me down a virtual bunny trail. There is a way to make that symbol (who knew it was called a radical? I'm sure that brain cell vanished in college) in a Word document, but an image seems to be the only way that we can accomplish this on the forum. Image

Square root celebrations...apparently the default celebration is to cut root vegetables (carrots, turnips, radishes, potatoes?) into squares...go square dancing...but my favorite one has to be a page put together by Ron Gordon, the fellow who started all the discussions around Square Root Day. This Square Root Day coincides with Opening Day for Baseball, a time for Cubs and Rockies fans to say "maybe THIS is the year", so it is sure to be an extra special celebration day. http://squarerootday.net/

Image

Image Awesome!

For those whose eyes glaze over at the very mention of the word Math...or those who have said "Math is just not my forte" instead of "Math is just not my forte...yet"...it is NEVER too late to learn to enjoy math and science. Thanks to all the teachers (and we have several on the Lunie team) who do make these subjects fun.

And that, gents and gals, is how time gets away from me...snort.
