had a look at the CTC this morning
1221m @1:26.2 with 2 in the 1:27s so maybe a bit more in it - defo need to be careful with the back though
For those who are newer around here it is really cool to see some of the "former" FFers in Boat 1 - back in the day we were often on the CTC podium in the sprinty ones before the current elite teams arrived. Dirk Moller is still one of the fastest >50yo in the world with a 1:15 500m in his past and Ewen Macroth is a super Swiss competitive strongman who has done a lot OTE as well with us. Both amazing because they could produce strong longer ones as well. We should really try to fill as many boats as possible of course.

then did a steady slow 6344m to get on the board as well @2:03.1

Nov. CTC preceded by 6 oz of 2006 Pinot Grigio. Smooth! Enjoyed it again and again and again
Like your style, Jack !!

Did a 10K (+1 m  ) just under 46 minutes today on the UT1 / UT2 border, very happy with this as i am clawing back some pace gradually (PB was 42:27). I think i was using too high a DF in the past, i am now sticking between 105 and 115 and i have found a sweet spot allowing me to focus on the drive & up the rate to 23/24 on long rows like today (compared to the 19/20 of old). Feels like a nice working balance for now.

To tally up the last 6 weeks: just under 300K rowed including 1HM, about 6 pounds lost in weight (on top of 10 more lost from July to Sept), belly girth down by nearly 10 cm since rowing, with the diet in better control. Had a couple of strapless rows thrown in as well, which felt quite good... Bring on November.

Lindsay,
Belated congrats on the ARIC 2K !
Found a video of Dirk Moeller rowing in a team 100K, after seeing his name on the CTC... jeez louise... :o

I understand the watts-hungry “cube rule” which describes the relation between pace and the power necessary to produce that pace but there’s nothing like an accidental observation to drive the point home. The three hwts currently occupying FF boat 2 are all inside a 3” difference on pace/500m but the 3” difference 3rd to 1st demands an additional 70watts average power output from the leader!

funny thing Jack is that I has a similar thought as well jack. Even if you look at yours and mine and Adam's at the top - yours was 4:30/1:52/250 mine was a minute faster 3:30/1:26/540 and Adams 3:00/1:13/880 - so I added 300w to get a minute and then Adam another 300 to get 30".

Requires scrolling from bottom to top of the CTC food chain but a much better example of the immense increase in power output necessary to pick up even a fraction of a second on the approach to WR 100m pace. JeanG is always saying how personally gratifying it is that Pavel Shurmei never goes twice as fast as she. Life is a lesson about limits/finitude.

@Papy: Congrats on the success at reducing self to pure muscle.

Just noticed that Harriman’s time added 340W to your output power. Worse than we thot. Happy I’m not foolishly trying to get good at this!

"Fun" day on the erg today... finished a very laboured HM in 1h38, including 3 short breaks and counting down the strokes by batches of 20 with 6k to go to keep the mind going... absolutely crawling over the line...on the plus side, it was still 5 minutes faster than the HM I did two weeks ago... silver lining and all that  ... Hopefully the next will be more even...

Got back on the C2CTC tonight, seeing it's FF's choice this month.
Fell of the wagon as far as regular erging is concerned, this summer was too hot choose the erg over the single scull.
I am once again humbled with a lowly 181'st overall and 3rd boat finish.. we have some strong people on the team.
Should start heavy lifting to increase my max watt's I suppose.

I wasn't looking forward to it but finally gave the CTC ago today, managed 4:03.4, not sure what I was expecting all I do know is it wasn't my favourite piece I've ever rowed!  Might have gone off a little too keen but kept the times between 21.6-22.7 secs, so not too bad on that front. Anyway, no time left to try it again.  I'm hoping Decembers will be less daunting, we'll see. Well done to all of the other FF who completed it. jp
