CALL to ROWERS:
Thanks Dan for giving us a heads up on the Fall Rowing Challenge that starts on September 15 and runs through October 15. Concept has some information on this event on the C2 website under Motivation. I’m sure we will hear more about this soon.
With some googling I came up with a map of what I think Kona2 will be doing today.

It looks like they have a message board set up at camp ... should we send her an "atta-girl" tutti-fruit message from the luna-boat after she's pedalled her way through Hell's Canyon tomorrow?DuluthMoose wrote:With some googling I came up with a map of what I think Kona2 will be doing today.

Great idea Chris! Do you know how to do this? I scanned the website and couldn't find info on that. If you know how - Go for it! Darryl

I had thought about going down to Oregon and tagging the road for Jan like people do for the Tour de France. It would, however, be at least a 5 hr drive one way and was a little much for me.
The area she is riding in is not vary populated. If you know staff at a BLM you might be able to email them and have them or a co-worker in the Burns OR area post it.

What a surprise that would be for Jan! A few years ago I had a message for me daggered to a tree with a tent stake at the end of a portage trail at least 40 miles away from the nearest access point darn near in the middle of the Quetico. And everyone traveling that way knew about it as well. I found out about it at least a half day in advance via the canoe travelers grapevine. So all kinds of thoughts were going through my mind before I actually got to the note. As it turned out it was only instructions on how to locate the key to the boathouse at the cabin we were going to be staying at the end of our trip... Darryl
Re: cycle oregon
Hmm ... well, if that's what it takes; can someone run up to Oregon and pin a message (or drive a stake) through Jan's tent home in the next couple of days ... ?? That would be quite memorable. (Yes, Jane, a 10-hour round trip is a bit heroic ... too bad we didn't think to smuggle one of Kristine's homing pigeons into Jan's duffle bag!)DuluthMoose wrote: ... CALL to ROWERS:
The Fall Rowing Challenge starts on September 15 and runs through October 15.
The daily stats spreadsheet goes to Chris today and she will be taking over reporting duties for tomorrow through when Kona2 gets back. I’m processing whatever is ripe of my tomato crop today, harvesting what I can from the garden, and then packing. I expect to be leaving on Friday for a 3 week tour of Eastern Canada and New England, hopefully with some fall colors, some breathtaking seascapes, some covered bridges, and some canoeing along the way. There will also be lots of seafood along our route and some serious rowing to do when I get back.

Dan - Today I just ran the ripe tomatoes through the Victorio food strainer http://www.*** DELETE - SPAM ***.com/cgi-bin/ ... vw200.html
and simmered down the resulting sauce to a concentrate - ends up being somewhat thinner than paste from a can. Then I jar and pressure cook. I got 16 pints for my effort. I decided to put my unripe tomatoes in the frig while I'm gone to slow down ripening and hopefully I will be able to make a batch or two of spaghetti sauce when I get back. I grow mostly paste tomatoes.
Barb - I'll be coming into Maine from New Brunswick, heading along the coast to about Freport, then across the Sebago Lake area into New Hapshire, and across northern Vermont to the Lake Champlain area. From there on to the Adirondacks and Finger Lakes. So I really don't see much of New England this trip, but maybe the part that has the most fresh lobster, sea scallops, and fresh haddock....
