Ditto that BG. This is my favorite challenge because of all the neat stuff K2 and AJ think up. Kinda gets one in the mood for Christmas!

There I was, waiting patiently at the car repair place, and perusing the Concept2 meter logbook to see how our Lunie reindeer were progressing - especially since I was not going to be fleet of tire for awhile. Of course I was looking for reindeer claimants! At that time of day, one teammate had stopped just short of 100K...and I confess to challenging her to finish that 100K and getting her reindeer. Teresa met that challenge, and provided a bunny trail at the same time. Seems that she has been watching a BBC production of Call the Midwife during the first 100K, and was thinking she would like the name Nonnatus for her reindeer (maybe that is Nonnie in informal settings). I had never heard of Call the Midwife, but it looks to be a good drama for those who might want to check it out. She says her family wonders about that show and all that screaming, and she laughingly says it's her trying to finish her workout while she watches. I love these stories! I do feel a tiny bit guilty about asking for just a few more meters....
Nonnatus (Teresa)
Meanwhile, Steven D, was busy claiming the last of the traditional 8 reindeer, Blitzen...although it might have been a really close finish since the meter entries aren't time stamped.
Blitzen (Steven D)
Good work to claim those reindeer when the Challenge is only one-third of the way finished. Yikes. I need to row more.

Hi team,
Great to see everyone putting in the meters! Love the challenge... Always need more reindeer to pull the heavy sleigh. When I loaded the meters I looked over and saw I surpassed 17 mil lifetime. Felt good!
Good luck and happy rowing to all during the holiday season.

I just have to say first thanks for the reindeer, second thanks to everyone for the motivation, third I actually rowed 3500 on wednesday night (after meters posted here) and then a half marathon on thursday, just to see if I could do it--and to get a moon!!--thus the odd number of meters! (slightly sad that the meters didn't split out that way--once I recover from that row, perhaps I'll try again...) Glad to hear about new shows to check out while thrashing--I mean rowing--i'm working my way through the Swedish version of Wallander (highly recommended for all those who TV whilst thrashing). Maybe next year I'll use a Swedish reindeer name! and for anyone into Christmas weird, there is a very creepy Christmas movie (came out a few years ago) from Finland called "Rare Export." In addition to creepy, it's also darkly funny, emphasis on dark!
Thrash away, Lunies!

And Ron, your perseverance continues to inspire.
Thought you might like to see this little tidbit I stumbled across while I was browsing through some images:
http://www.civilwar.org/education/histo ... l-war.html,
especially the story about the Confederate soldier opening his Christmas package to find a bottle of DISAPPOINTMENT.

While we're posting Christmas related links, this one is great.
I'd love to zip over to D.C. and see one of these USAF Band flash mob concerts.
(And, I wonder if Kap'n Kristine's son is in the USAF Band ... ?)

Turn my computer off for a few hours (ok, like a lot of hours) and what should I see upon my return? Three new reindeer and some blinding antler lights ! Good stuff!
And, since Karyn's reindeer earning came with a story, I'll start with her reindeer first!
River (Karyn)
Last year, Karyn requested the reindeer name Neo for her 100K crossover into reindeer ownership since she was watching the movie The Matrix while rowing that segment. This year her message is:
I crossed the 100k threshold this weekend with the help of watching Meryl Streep and Kevin Bacon in The River Wild. Early on in this movie Meryl Streep rowed a King single. I had the opportunity of seeing the single that Meryl rowed on display at the Yale Art Gallery some time in the late 90s. King singles are beautiful pieces of art.
Can you name my reindeer "River" in honor of this movie (with a rowing connection) entertaining me across that 100k mark? So who is Graeme King? Read more about him!
http://www.quantumracing.com/graeme-king.php
Those who have read The Boys In The Boat know that George Pocock and his racing shell line was famous in its time, and Pocock shells are still sold out of their Seattle rowing center. Graeme King of Australia and then Vermont made quite a bit of rowing history with his shells, too. Great to get some recommendations that include some rowing history!
Larry E has been quietly amassing a lot of meters since he signed on. Great work on getting that reindeer!
Starlight (Larry)
And, our third reindeer, is one claimed by Danwho. We've associated Dan's reindeer with a certain brewery Wickwar in the old country in the past. There are a lot of good Christmas-themed ales out there, and probably a few that are only good names but bad beer. From the 2014 Christmas beer list, Danwho's reindeer is....Festivus, after Festivus ale.
Festivus (Danwho)
Steve G, one of our first reindeer, has met the 200K portion of the Holiday Challenge and has earned his Challenge pin plus a lot of $$$ for the charity of his choice through Concept2's matching our meters program. Good work!
Prancer (Steve G) earns his lights!

Nice reindeer name. Now let the feats of strength commence.
soon to be followed by the airing of grievances, beginning with why is there a letter Q.

That was very cool! Tim isn't in the Air Force band. He plays piano, though, and recently purchased one and hauled it up 3 flights of stairs with the help of another Airman, so he has it in his barracks room in South Korea now.
