Thanks guys. If it isn't possible then we can just paste the post's link into future messages when replying to newcomers. I should go bookmark it now before I forget!lindsayh wrote: ↑September 9th, 2018, 9:07 pmboth are good ideas Jack - I think there is a way of putting it on the top of the first page and keeping it there - maybe we need to ask Doug?jackarabit wrote: ↑September 9th, 2018, 4:19 pmIs there a way we can make Dave’s summary of our team activities—including where to find and how to sign up—a sticky inside our forum page? Or, If this isn’t possible, could we add it to Capt. Henry’s intro to the team on our logbk affiliation page? Certainly a well-organized omnibus answer to a number of questions which regularly arise!

Re: Forum Flyers
Hi jpjacket wrote: ↑September 10th, 2018, 12:06 pmHi again, jp here,
I've tried unsuccessfully, more than once, to register on the c2ctc.com website. I know there are problems but can you just clarify, as I am registering for the first time I assume the name and password are new and not something I have already used either for the c2 log book or c2 forum?
I haven't yet tried to register for the indoor rowing league but I suppose the same questions apply re name and password.
Any help much appreciated.
Many thanks.
jp
You could probably use the same login details for convenience when setting up on the CTC and IRL sites, provided that the username hasn't already been taken. The key though is that they're all independent sites, so changing passwords (e.g.) on one won't follow through to the others.
The CTC problems you're having sound familiar. My vague memory is that you have successfully registered, but just need to go back in later and try log in again with those details. At worst you can post on the CTC forum thread and ask Dougie (username Citroen) to reset your password (he normally sends it through to you in a private message).
Cheers
Dave
Re: Forum Flyers
Hi Dave
many thanks for your advice, I think I am now registered with both the ctc and IRL. With the former I guess I wait to hear if or when I get put in a boat, as for the IRL I'll enter my scores as an individual, I didn't see the Forum Flyers listed so haven't selected a team.
Thanks again.
Regards.

Re: Forum Flyers
Hi jp
You need to use "High Flyers 18" for the IRL. At some point we had 2 teams (Forum Flounderers for the slower people, and High Flyers for the faster team), but for a couple of years we've only managed 1 team, and just keep adding the year to it to create a new one (because we couldn't get some of the teammates to get out of the old team if they weren't planning on posting scores that year).

Re: Forum Flyers
Have you done the 2818m and entered the score on the C2CTC site? I'm not seeing you on the results list yet. There is no automatic link from your logbook to this site, because it's an independent third party one (but has been going since 2005, which reflects its quality and the value it adds to people's training!).

Hi Dave
re the C2CTC, no I haven't done that yet, I guess from what you say I just do the distance and add my time so I appear on the list whether I'm in a boat or not? I've gone back into the IRL site and added the HighFlyers18 as my 8on8 team.
So, all I need to do is start rowing and entering some times.
Thanks again for all your help, lets hope that being in a team adds that extra bit of incentive to keep me rowing.
All the best.

Re: Forum Flyers
Welcome jp. Yes with the ctc once you are in the FF team you just log your results - as many or as few times as you like each month. Often good to do one to get an idea of pacing as a lot of them are pretty random pieces - part of the fun. Your boat position is shuffled around as other people enter their results.jacket wrote: ↑September 11th, 2018, 4:06 amre the C2CTC, no I haven't done that yet, I guess from what you say I just do the distance and add my time so I appear on the list whether I'm in a boat or not? Re: Forum Flyers
Hi jp
The monthly challenges are helpful to give you some motivation, but I've also found a training plan useful to take away the "I don't know what to do today, so let me row tomorrow rather" distractions.
There are some plans floating around the forum, but these interactive plans are also a good option to consider. I've been doing the 2k one since earlier this year, and it has helped keep me focused and improving my fitness.

Hi Dave
thanks for the link.
I'm currently on Pete's Plan for the 5k, the 3 times a week version as that's about right for me. After that I have a programme based on the half marathon distance so will switch to that. The plan is that if I finish both those then I'll get onto a 2k programme and try to set a serious best time for that.
Many years ago I entered the British Indoor Rowing Championship and set a time of 7.01, I should have stuck with rowing then to break the 7 min. mark but didn't and now it seems like a distant dream! We will see how close I can get by the spring of next year.
For now if I can keep up my 3 x a week and stay injury free that will be a bonus.
Enjoy your rowing, I'm sure you'll keep us posted with your progress via the forum, and thanks again for your help.
All the best.

Re: Forum Flyers
Did a 4min as part of a multi race day so logged IRL 1150m which translates to 1320 - will do better as a standalone
terry is struggling a bit with his back but we think he should be ok to get one in before the end of the month.
he always does well with IRL and has finished first/second overall "best man" in the past so fingers crossed..

Re: Forum Flyers
Hey, jp, you kept your experience well hidden - you clearly know what you're doing! Your series of training plans sound like a good idea, and good luck breaking through the 7:00 barrier this time around.

Re: Forum Flyers
Hi Dave
I've just noticed that on the link you gave me for the training programme there was an age adjustment calculator. Based on my time of 7.01 set when I was 43 in 2002 that equates to me currently setting a time of 7.30 for the 2k. I'm a little off that pace at present, I've just rowed the 2818m CTC and managed a split of 1:55.9 so I need to find another 3.4 secs/500m to get to 7:30. I think I'll start with that as my goal, I doubt at 58 I shall get anywhere near the 7 min mark again! Still at least with the adjustment I can make a comparison with my time back in 2002 and hopefully beat it.
I think I'm more suited to the longer distances, my times for those in the past seem to be high on the ranking lists than those for 2K and below, which is a shame because rowing distances on the erg is a bit boring, perhaps I should sort out some music.
I did a marathon a couple of years ago, Cancer Research UK and British Rowing run a challenge around the boat race time so I thought I'd raise some money for a good cause and have a go. Never again. Even with a bit of training leading up to my attempt I ached for 3-4 days afterwards. Still, that's where I got the training programme for the half marathon, which I think I will have another go at.
Thanks again for the link.
All the best.

Re: Forum Flyers
JP - I wouldn't write off sub7 - there are lots of 60+ guys well under 7:00 and some <6:30. FWIW I didn't start til 58yo and still closer to 6:50 than 7:00 and PB @64 of 6:46 (turn 67 later this month). Did a 7:00 yesterday actually as part of a race day where I did 5 events. I am by no means a super special athlete or great big guy either BTW so I reckon it can be done with a good training program and some patience.

Re: Forum Flyers
Good CTC time there, jp.
Music has definitely helped me on the longer rows. I don't have a long drive to work everyday, and don't get a lot of time to listen to music, so training time is a good excuse to get through some. Lately though I've been working through movies and TV series on an iPad balanced between my feet on the handle holder. Works well for the longer, slower pieces, but I prefer music for the faster sessions.
