The (temporary) controversy seemed to be limited to New York, and it has also been speculated that objections to the round bright red variety may be the reason some children in New York have been skipped at Christmastime.
All in all, California Chrome has been quite the story. I'm betting on the movie coming out for Christmas 2015.

Nose strips for horses?I Looks like NY has okayed them also, so CC should be good to go! Anticipation builds!

Image Every time I go through the team profiles and see Marty's Bike Friday, I am reminded of the sheer delight of riding one of these folding bicycles. Mine has been in its case for a couple of years now....misthreaded the pedals, and need to get them replaced. But I digress. There's an cycling organization called PBAA - which stands for Perimeter BIcycling Association of America. It's based in Tucson and offers up rides that go around the perimeter of cities like Tucson, Mesa, and some counties. Its members send in reports of perimeter rides they have done. One person holds the record for the most perimeter points (all done on a Bike Friday) - and it's a gal who also holds some indoor rowing records: Joan Joesting-Mahoney. Joan was a member of Ducks in a Row team and logged 3.4 MM meters last year. She recently passed away of congestive heart failure at 76, and one can say she had a life well lived and filled with biking and rowing adventures. She rode the perimeter of Australia twice, and a gazillion perimeter rides in her home state of Florida. She set the indoor rowing record for 100,000 meters for the 61-69 age group, and owns the record for longest continuous row (30 hours). I'm sure she should be in the Concept2 Rowing Hall of Fame (I keep lobbying for one to be created!).

Season meters as of 19/365 = 6,150,985 m

Total meters on the day = 283,741 m

Oars in space (participation) = 38 percent

Congrats to all who met the challenge. I'm really impressed by those who rowed multiple half/full marathons. Amazing!

It was my first ever half marathon. I didn't know if I was going to make it, but it was such a great feeling when I finished. Like several others on the team, I usually watch TV or a movie when I row. This half marathon was done while watching a few episodes of "Murder, She Wrote" on Netflix.

Whoop, whoop and hooyah ! It could have happened just like this: On Saturday, May 10th, 2014 Sarah A sat down at the erg and contemplated the menu for her rowing session. She punched in 21,097 m...and that number probably looked pretty large on the screen. Maybe it was a bit of a relief as she saw the numbers go down from 20's to the 10's. There was probably even a point where she had to mentally push past the "I've had enough of this" into the "I can do this" realm. (That point is a bit different for everyone, but I'm pretty sure it exists for all of us.) But at the end of that rowing session, she OWNED that half marathon and into the ranking books it went (good job on that!). Hooyah moment! Congratulations, Sarah A, on completing your FIRST EVER half marathon! We wish you many, MANY more half and full (there's always another carrot) marathons! Well done! We love first evers!

Athletic events give us opportunities every day to cross into the "I can DO this" arena - and what a great feeling to know that you got it done and fought off all those little insidious psychological jabs that tried to interfere with you getting it done. One of the best things about the forum is that you can say that you rowed or ski-erged a half marathon for the first time or the 222nd time, and every person on the team knows exactly what it took to finish...and remembers the great feeling of accomplishment! Thanks for calling it out and sharing with us!

Image Another episode...

There was a time when I had a small Toyota pickup. It was pretty basic, and good for mountain roads in the winter. I went into the grocery store and did a big shop...and forgot that I had brought the pickup and that I would have to fit all the goods into the front since the back of the truck was full of snow and who knows what. It was definitely an "oops" moment. Chagrin too. Since then, I've even measured the height of my dogs when they are standing before buying vehicles to make sure that they will be able to stand up in the back cargo area, etc. No matter how much I liked the vehicle, it had to fit the dogs. So...I was sort of surprised when I went to the garden store, and saw this fabulous vine plant (a mandevilla) that looked very tropical....it was well established (think tall)...so I bought it...and found it was too tall for the cargo area when I got back to the Explorer. I moved seats, trying to fit it into the back seat floor area. Ha! Had to lay the container on its side, and some of the soil seemingly went a lot of places in the vehicle....hahaha...I guess some things don't change with time! Regardless, what a colorful time of year with all the plants starting to bloom !

Season meters as of 20/365 = 6,497,756 m

Total meters on the day = 346,771 m

Oars in space (participation) = 44 percent

A tropical plant living outside in Denver? Surviving the ride home might be the least of its problems ... :)

Congrats to a great start to everyone in this new season. Good luck Kona with the beautiful plant, loved the green footed Goldies. Richard, I wonder if CC's nasal strips would fit my 4 time broken schnozz?
Sorry havent posted lately, depression taking a commanding lead, but rally hat is on. Or was till yesterday. I got hit by a car in the walmart parking lot in a crosswalk. Just very colorful bruises in areas not scene unless I wear a speedo. Could pass for rainbow shorts though.
Thank you to all our veterans and active duty members for your service and sacrifices for all of us.
