Lulled into thoughts of spring and flowers, sunny days and so forth....and here comes the other part of spring in the Rockies....snow. There I was in the dark of night wandering through the yard, although headlamps are such wonderful things, wrestling with how to cover the tulips and other plant forms. Still snowing, and I am hopeful that the tulips survive it all. Daffodils in snow. Rats.

Meanwhile, as often happens, I was busy capturing numbers and started out with one total only to see that I had
ImageImageImageImage m extra ...will someone PLEASE claim this palindrome!? I am sure that it fits into someone's totals and thus won't be celebrated as the palindrome it truly is...step forward and help solve another one of the deep space mysteries!

ImageDinosaurs and cycling...an update. When Bike Jeffco goes to events, we try to bring the appropriate route maps, bike pins, and share what our current challenges are with our audience. The dinosaurs should have been our clue. Yes, the route up Dinosaur Ridge is a very popular cycling destination...and as we sat with our maps and booths, many lycra-clad cyclists zipped by on the highway outside the Dino Visitor Center. No, it turned out that our demographic was MUCH younger, and most hadn't even graduated to training wheels yet. They did, however, enjoy the bicycle pins...and one or two moms and dads did ask us a couple of questions about cycling routes. We had many more opportunities to talk about helmets for kids and how to fit them! Too funny. Community outreach and education...a good thing.

Season meters as of 347/365 = 174,644,830 m

Congratulations to all the recent milestone achievers. And it seems our 1MM average couldn't have happened on a better day, another palindrome day in the same month: 4-14-14

And so it is! In fact, I have been remiss in failing to notice (much less point out!) that the dates of 4-10-14 to 4-19-14 are ALL palindromes. Next year, it will be May 10- to 19 May that are all palindromes.... Now I'll have to work on the European way of expressing the date...and see where the palindromes fall...it works for today....14.4.14...and it works for the 14th of each of the months...Peter H would say that this shows the definite superiority of the European expression... :D

Post by Kona2 » April 15th, 2014, 11:45 am

Ok, Lunies...so how many of us set alarms for the start of the eclipse...and then went out and watched the 75 minute event? I would have liked a different name than Blood Moon...that total lunar eclipse when the earth comes between the sun and the moon. Prime viewing in the Denver area! The first of the tetrad of blood moons to occur in 2014 and 2015 - each separated by six full moons, and no partial lunar eclipses. The next one is October 8th, so mark your calendars! Miss this tetrad, and it's 15 or 16 years before the next tetrad! And, on our virtual journey to the moon, a distance of 384,000,000 m....we're about 46 percent of the way there! Probably right in the middle of all that eclipse stuff...might be even more awesome in space!

Lots of fun had with the palindrome of 4/14/14 today...and Rosi was sure to put the date in its European format of 14/4/14 ! Thanks to a note from bg about folks on Facebook seeing that the whole week was dates that could be read front to back and back to front, the word palindrome wasn't mentioned by any of those making comments...in fact, most did not seem to "get" why palindromes are cool things. Oh well. They are obviously not Lunies who know how to have fun with numbers!

Season meters as of 349 of 365 = 176,063,309 m

Total meters on the day = 953,486 m
