Saying same as you, Chris. Surplus ladies and LWTs on one team; no ladies or LWTs on another with very fast HWT men and the result no boats filled. BB well supplied with many of who required if not quite as much of what. Jack

Absolutely, should say that the Banana Boats are nearly all <16 year olds, run by a few that do rowing lessons and the CTC is one of the main things they do.jackarabit wrote:Saying same as you, Chris. Many hands make light work. The Banana Boat club certainly exploits their "armada" for tactical advantage! As a newby to CTC, I didn't realize that the BBs were school kids and the reference to the little people from Gulliver's Travels was pure coincidence.
Hans and Franz, from a popular comedy sketch on stateside TV, may have got lost crossing the pond? Kevin Neeland and Dana Carvey of Saturday Night Live were two gym rats dressed in sweats stuffed with polyester batting, lifter belts and trainers. They would flex and say, in stage Schwarzeneggerian, "We just want to pump you up!"

Never heard of them on this side either, Jack. At first glance, I mistook them for Hans and Fritz, the Katzundjammer kids of the 30s comic pages of the Sunday newspapers - but then, have you ever heard of what used to be called "newspapers?"jackarabit wrote:Many hands make light work. I hasten to point out, Bob, that I am an ur-Boomer rather than a post-ZEDer and do remember the Katzenjammer Kids. Believe someone is still drawing it. As for fishwrap, I don't have much use for it but regret its passing. Requiescat in pacem.. Jack

Re: Forum Flyers
Looking at FORVM FLVER boats afloat in the CTC for several days now, I see a very regular distribution across the placings. There are currently eight FF boats ranked 13,24,33,41,50,62,71 and 76th place. The sequence of total numbers of opposing team boats ranking between each of ours is 10,8,7,8,7,8 and 4. Is the fairly consistent numerical separation of these placings a common occurrence? Sub-7 shows a comparable distribution of boats (4 to 7 boat separation in placings). Are there statisticians, sociologists, or other curious cats who care to comment? Jack

As the twig is bent, eh? Does raise some questions re: level of physical development in pre-school children and the adaptability of a full scale adult device for rheir use. Jack

Hi jack. Great that bean is floating!jackarabit wrote:"Bean" is afloat in the 10 boat. What a beginning! Jack
Ten boats is actually pretty good for us (I think 12 is our best) and until recently that was competitive but both FIRT and Sub7 have now gone nutso on FB and as a result have floated well over 30 boats and recruited some seriously fast people along the way. Over 700 entries this month is amazing. It is very hot at the top right now. MAD and the others are pulling out the big guns as well.
Some months will suit us better (especially sprinty ones like March) but I suspect even these ones will be hard with all the numbers now.
Wait 'til you see our boat1 this time though - it could be spectacular.

Linsday, you are right, i think i looked and overthe past 12 months we have about 90 people who have posted a score for the CTC, so if yuou can get 75% of them to put a score in thats good going. A few injuries and illness going about so its been quiet but warming up as the days get lighter
Re: Forum Flyers
ALready the 1st boat is off and running for March. 3 x 250m with 2mins rest. Advice would be to tack it on to something else where you are nice and warmed up. The rest means you can really go for it. Dont be tempted though to ramp up the damper level, nothing good will come of it
Cheers

I must say I do the sprints with a higher DF than other sessions and did mine at 160DF.jackarabit wrote:Hey Lindsay. Agree that macroth has some serious juice. Who will join him?

Macroth (Ewen) is very strong - he competes in strong man comps in Europe (he is Swiss) and said he could be faster in his blog yesterday.
Dirk Moller is close to the fastest guy in town and is hoping to do 1:14 pace - he is in late 40s and is a beast (LP 1:03-4 and 500m 1:15)
I think Shawn Baker will be around 1:18 or less and if Rich Pruyn has a go he will be around the same thing.
There are a couple of 1:20 type guys in our gym who will have a go this month I hope.
Taru Calonius is a Finnish lady who is very fast in the sprints and is a fabulous athlete who normally puts in a big one.
We have great hopes for a new guy from the US who is a very fast lwt who did Dec and Jan for us (Austin and we have a good lwt in our gym too (Chris).
With the explosion in numbers elsewhere some serious people have appeared so it will be hard to tell but we will defo be better placed.
