Another Reindeer Claimed !

Post by Kona2 » December 15th, 2013, 9:53 am

Paul S earned his basic Concept2 donation about a week ago, but I wasn't sure if he wanted to wait for the 100K milestone for naming or not. Last year's reindeer for Paul was called Bridger after the bridges in the area where he lives (and a nod towards explorer Bridger here in the US). This year, since Paul really put out the meters to earn his reindeer quickly, we'll name his reindeer Polar after Polar Express! Good job on earning the Concept2 donation dollars, Paul !

Another Reindeer Claimed!

Post by Kona2 » December 15th, 2013, 9:57 am

Rebecca has earned the Concept2 donation also, and freed up her reindeer. She talked about growing some great azaleas, and last year's reindeer was Blaze, after the blazing azaleas. Staying with the flower theme, but moving towards a more seasonal one, her reindeer is Amaryllis. These bulbs are so fun to grow ... talk about growth spurts ! Whoa !

Another Reindeer Claimed !

Post by Kona2 » December 15th, 2013, 10:11 am

Our resident artist, AJ, has earned his Concept2 donation also and claimed his reindeer. Last year's story was about reindeer art, and a piece called Swimming Reindeer. Swimming Reindeer was part of an archeological find at a site called Montastruc in France. Two reindeer that appear to be swimming are carved into a mammoth tusk. This was part of the prehistoric art of the Ice Age some 13,000 years ago. We called his reindeer Montastruc after the carving. And, while we have another reindeer this year named Monty for Monty Python, we'll call AJ's reindeer Montastruc again this year (because I like the story). Congratulations, AJ !

AJ (MONTASTRUC)...which could be Monty...after all, most of us share names with other people....

Ron maxes out his reindeer awards!

Post by Kona2 » December 15th, 2013, 10:17 am

Wowzer....Ron has crossed the 500,000 m milestone for the Holiday Challenge and has earned the final (so far) reindeer award of the ear wag. Nothing like getting the reindeer, the antler lights, the flashing red harness, the tail wag and now the ear wag to accessorize your reindeer! Well done!

All in a Day Ago's ERG: Team Progress Thru 12.13.13

I have captured today's numbers, but will need to update my database later this evening to post today's numbers.

Meanwhile, yesterday's numbers have been languishing - and there were an incredible number of half marathons and half moons (like TEN) ...and a half pi (15708 m) to celebrate! Sometimes a number IS MORE THAN just a number after all. In the non-virtual, mostly rational world, a pie usually starts out whole...and depending upon the pie and the number people, it can migrate quickly or slowly to half a pie. We could use pie charts to demonstrate this disappearance. Still, it is more unusual to build or bake a pie halfway. It's all good.

Season meters as of 227/365 = 77,433,546 m

Total meters on the day = 634,657 m

Oars in space (participation) = 35 percent

Thank you for my reindeer name. Reindeer BOB is happy to join the party.
Image

And this moniker sent me down a little bunny trail of my own. The name Bob in association with reindeer sent me to the story of Bob May and the making of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

Congrats to all new reindeer, awesome rowing everyone!
Tristans team won their semifinal game Friday and play the 21st for the state 3A title. They made it last year too but lost in the last minute on a Bradyesque drive and td. I hope to go to the game, missed Fridays game due to a short hospital stay. Go Beavers!

4 more reindeer claimed !

Post by Kona2 » December 16th, 2013, 1:33 pm

The herd grows! Four more reindeer trotted out of the reindeer stables in the last few hours - and there are many others that are literally knocking at the stable doors! Meanwhile, Reindeer Flight School is in progress....good thing we have a few pilots in the group (including Holiday Challenge meter leader Richard T). The closer it gets to Sleigh Day, the busier Flight School gets....still, we have some young bucks who are determined to buzz the tower at Reindeer Central....you've got to stop teaching them how to do that, RT!

Image

Bobbie (SNOW) Congratulations, Bobbie, on reaching the 100,000 m Concept2 donation milestone and freeing up your reindeer, Snow. Sometimes Bobbie's team picture has been that of Snow White, and that's why her reindeer is Snow.

Image

Ross (BLUE) Congratulations, Ross, on reaching the 100,000 m Concept2 donation milestone and freeing up your reindeer, Blue. Ross is from Asheville, NC, a city that is often listed as one of the best places to live in recent years. It's located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, which look really misty because of the area's high humidity. So we're calling Ross's reindeer, Blue.

Image

Bernie (PINK) Congratulations, Bernie, our ultimate PINK fan, on reaching the 100,000 m milestone in the Concept2 donation levels and freeing up your reindeer! Perhaps there is a holiday PINK!

Image

Nathan (FIREBALL) Congratulations, Nathan W, on reaching the 100,000 m Concept2 milestone and freeing up your reindeer, Fireball. Nathan is a firefighter, and Fireball returns as his reindeer this year. They are a good team!
