Whoop, whoop and DIana has earned her Concept2 donation and freed up a reindeer ! Congratulations !
Diana (CONNEMARA)...Connie for short!
Diana lives in Galway, Ireland...a place that serves as the gateway to western Ireland. In one direction there is what looks to be the barren and windswept Burren, in another a romantic castle called Kylemore Abbey, and still another leads to Connemara with its greenery, blue skies and intelligent Connemara ponies. These horses appear to be good for many types of riding and riders, and some say they are quite good tempered, too (intelligent, good-tempered...they're keepers!).

Amazing, I missed two days (which included visiting the PGB's preschool class, and making Grinch kabobs with a couple-dozen 3-5 year olds; I got a real workout with that little gig!) and the luna caribou have expanded into an impressive thundering herd. It looks like some of those podium reindeer (inspirational meters ... well rowed!) will need more bling ... or, maybe some Christmas elves, cavorting around in the background!
Grinch kabobs:
I grew up singing Mairzy Doats nonsense, and had no idea there were "real" words involved!
Mares eat oats ... the things one learns on K2's bunny trails! (Now, about that "kiddley divey" ... ?)
Chris doesn't the Bling and Dancing elfs come from your house?

Jane's earned her Concept2 donation, and freed up her reindeer! After giving this reindeer name due consideration, Regatta the Reindeer returns as Jane's reindeer for another Holiday Challenge. Good rowing!

Turn back your mental clock to the tales of last year, and you'll find that Kristine's reindeer was Kootenai so named for local legends. It's always good to know about the area that our teammates call home. This year, though, since son Tim is heading out to Air Force duty, we're wishing Kristine and her family Blue Skies. So her reindeer is Sky.

In an evening ceremony that is most like a hot air balloon glow, the team reindeer who have antler lights put on quite the glow show! And, now we have another reindeer with antler lights to add to the group!
Christa (DONNER)
Congratulations, Christa, on achieving 200,000 m in the Holiday Challenge! You've earned lots of Concept2 donation $$$ for your charity of choice!

I did my own tribute to Sandy Hook this morning. I erged 1000 meters for each of the 26 victims from Sandy Hook School. I broke this up into a 15,000m piece followed by a short break to stretch and than an 11,000m piece. There was not actual 1/2 marathon in my erging this morning.
My heart is heavy remembering the Sandy Hook families and the Newtown community. We are all Newtown!

PS(I live in New Haven, CT which is about 23 miles away from Newtown.)

Thanks for the great reindeer name, Jan. Great rowing, Team! And you will do great at the Crash B, Barb. It's on my bucket list. I should have done it when we lived in Laramie, WY, within driving distance of the one in Denver, CO, but I never felt ready.

Lily has earned her Concept2 donation and freed her reindeer! Congratulations!
Lily lives in Boulder, CO and one of the most iconic features of Boulder's landscape is the presence of giant slabs of red sandstone known as the Flatirons. These triangular shaped formations are also found in one of Colorado's well known concert venues, Red Rocks, and at Garden of the Gods and Roxborough Park. So, while I am tempted to name Lily's reindeer Flatirons, I think we'll call him Rocky for both Boulder and the Flatirons.

Last year, Dan W's reindeer naming was another one of those Twilight Zone moments. Dan's last name (Wickwar) is also the name of a brewery in the UK, and one of the seasonal items the brewery produces is Christmas Ale. So his reindeer was named Christmas. Little did Reindeer Central know that there was some relationship between the Wickwars of NC and the Wickwars of the UK...or so it appears! This year, looking at the Wickwar Brewery products, there is also a product known as Bob. Bob the beer. While this really stands for Brand Oak Bitter, the label is just BOB. In a bunny trail kind of moment, this definitely sent me thinking about Bob Fest. Depending upon where you are geographically, Bob Fest could be a celebration of all things Bob Dylan or all things Bob Marley. And then there is the Bob Club, for all those people and things named Bob. I don't think the Bob Club has a reindeer named Bob just yet, so we'll make it so.
Congratulations, Dan W, on earning your Concept2 donation and freeing up your reindeer, Bob ... so named after another product of the Wickwar Brewery!
Dan W (BOB)
