waterproof digital camera

Good to know, thx, Andrea! In fact, an Olympus waterproof digital camera is somewhere en route to my eager little paws. I thought it might be here today but, naturally, it'll be tomorrow when I'm home too late to take underwater pictures of the pool sweep in action.

The camera is a birthday present so, Barbara, any time you want to borrow it ... !

strange but true excuse for no meters

Post by acrewer » July 29th, 2008, 12:32 pm

The Ducks have struck...

I had planned to add 2000 meters to each day's row for this week and next week, to do my part in the duck hunt. Would you believe that just as I was about to change into my rowing gear yesterday, a hot water pipe burst in our attic. Water starts pouring out of the ceiling in our bathroom. First I thought the shower was leaking, but when I looked up the water was coming out of the light fixture, not the showerhead! Then it started coming out of other spots in the ceiling. My husband scampered up to the attic and figured out the problem. But since when do copper pipes corrode? I can only suspect bad duck carma.

After spending the evening cleaning up the mess and considering the prospect of a cold shower after my row, I decided to bag rowing for the day. The plumber is coming at 11 this morning, hopefully I will have hot water this afternoon.

duck karma

Post by Calamity » July 29th, 2008, 1:10 pm

what a mess gina. Sorry about your water troubles and the mess it made. good job you were at home when it happened! Home owners insurance anyone? I did find your attribution to ducks very funny. I am wondering about a duck exorcism - or perhaps a duck exercise-ism - more rowing!!

Hey, Welcome to Deborah!

And thanks to your recruiting efforts, Jane! Where did you find the new recruits? Maybe you can also recruit the person you sell your old rower to!

Barb, the training is coming along okay, but it sure seems to be harder this year. I'm starting to wonder whether or not this is still fun. :D The Two Bear Marathon which is the one I am really wanting to do every year (since I have run it every year since it started in 2005) is absolutely brutal with hills. Every year I try a different strategy in my training and in the running of it. This year I think I might not be running enough, and that is why the long run days are seeming so much harder. How many days a week do you actually run?

Earthquake!

Gina - hope the pipe didn't pop due to earthquake. Certainly looks like one struck the LA area today.

No first we had the flood, then we had the earthquake, I can only imagine what the DUCKS have planned for me next??

Gina

PS - Pipe leak was because the copper pipe used by our contractor was the cheapest grade available. No surprise there!

Copper pipes

Post by Kona2 » July 29th, 2008, 6:08 pm

I think the corrosion also has a lot to do with what your water is like also - are you by chance on a well system vs city water?.....it's always fun to start sawing away at the drywall on the ceiling....really necessary so you don't get mold into the ceiling area...

Wow alot is going on. Got moved out of the house into storage and a hotel. 3 days later started the move out of storage into an apartment. My Wife and boys will be staying up here for a while and I'll head to AZ in a couple weeks so all the stuff is divided up between coming and going and staying. A might bit confusing. My memebership at the Y ends tomorrow I hope to make it there to at least get some meters to help catch those ducks. No promises tho. When I get to AZ there's a rower a few miles from where I'll be so I can get back into the boat. Welcome to all our new members!

Sacrificed FOUR golf balls to the water gods this morning....still, overall score was best ever so I am happy. Couldn't get into the forum section here for a few hours - don't know what was going on with the web site. Anyone else have difficulty logging in to the forum? I could get to the logbook.

Row to Beijing: We finally made it to Sydney, AUS and are now headed to Waganui, NZ. That's quite a name. We've contributed 339,536 challenge meters thus far.

Season meters as of 91/365 = ONE QUARTER OF THE YEAR! = 11,746,675 m

Total meters on the day = 143,258 m

Oars in the water = 37 percent

MILESTONES: Kilometrics! Hey - BRAGGING RIGHTS!

1.5 MM Dan
800K Darryl
200K Rowin
Personal bests:
Dan - improved personal best in the 30 minute row by 11%
Dan - improved personal best in the 60 minute row by 4% (maybe there is something to the RowPro technique training???)

Congratulations all!

Thanks to today's rowers:

Dan 45,494 m (two days worth)
Rodrigo 17,789 m
Darryl 15,764 m
Chris 10,000 m
AJ 8,180 m
Rowin 8,001 m
Jane 8,000 m (hmmmm - increasing 1K a day....headed for major meter rowing?)
Tony 7,773m (68 more to get to 700K - you've probably already rowed it)
Steven 7,163 m
Jan 5,000 m
Gina 4,373 m
Peter G 3,000 m
Orion 2,473 m
Elias 135 m
Anais 113 m

Superb!

Wow, Barb, I don't know how you are running marathons with colitis on top of the major body rebellion that occurs just with the act of running that kind of mileage anyways! Have you tried different diets?

Jan, my meters entry just now is a half marathon plus some cool-down meters. Trying to get in some extra meters for the team effort while I can fit them in.

The camera is going test-rafting on the American River this weekend. (I guess you tape the extra memory card and battery to the inside of your wallet?)

Wishing you marathon runners all the best with your many miles.
