It's that time of year again when you will be seeing less and less of me. I had a glorious first row of the season today on water that was as smooth as glass. I was in an 8+, and considering we haven't rowed all winter, I was pleased with how well it went. As I row more on the water, I erg less, so I apologize for not contributing meters to the team. Since I won't be entering erg data into the computer, I know I won't keep up with the forum. Don't hesitate to shoot me a private message if you want to ask a question or share something I might be interested in.

Good luck to all my Loonie friends! You are the best off season motivators I ever found.

Karyn

A Side Note: National Bike Challenge

Post by Kona2 » April 11th, 2013, 11:12 am

If you are a cyclist who uses rowing as a cross-training exercise, or a rower who uses cycling as a cross-training exercise, this could be of interest to you!

For the last couple of years, there's been a national effort to get people to get out and riding their bikes through a national campaign. The National Bike Challenge is held from May 1 - September 30th. Every time you get on your bike the miles count. Whether the miles are for fitness, fun, or transportation make sure to join and log them on http://www.nationalbikechallenge.org Miles pedaled on a stationary bike or trainer do not count. You can join as an individual or as part of a team. There may be some local bike advocacy teams in your area registered as National Bike Challenge Teams that could really use your support to show how many cyclists are active in your city, county and state.

We have a number of cyclists on this rowing team. I urge you to check out the Endomondo site http://www.endomondo.com/campaign/national/ or nationalbikechallenge.org . It's free to sign up.

I've thought about making a Lunar Bike team, but perhaps it would be better data for the teams to be representative of areas where the individuals ride....because this data really could help get better bikeways and more focus on preventing cyclist and pedestrian traffic fatalities, etc. Any thoughts?

Let the snow melt, let the snow melt, let the snow melt!

Image FIVE days to row....counting them down !!!

1 FRENCH INDOOR ROWERS TEAM Virtual Club 36,001,210 275 130,913
2 Age Without Limits Virtual Club 30,304,807 193 157,020

Great rowing by all - we're still in the top FIVE of the Virtual Teams! Keep going....we're on the home stretch!! And speaking of home stretches, I forgot that the Rockies were playing SF Giants yesterday early in the day. When I saw the score of SF 10 and Rockies ZERO....well, I thought the Rockies forgot they were playing too. Ah baseball. Somewhere Robyn Lee is enjoying the Giants victory.

We wish it was that time of the year again.... Thanks to global warming we are facing one of the coldest winters in a long time.
Even Easter was colder then Christmas!!! Those poor tulips are still waiting for some sunshine and higher temperatures. It seems finally this weekend we leave the low 40`s behind. So in 4 to 6 weeks the fields should be covered in rainbow colours again.

I am toying with the idea of trying to do a charity run at Boston for next year or 2015 (2015 will be 10 years since my one and only Boston Marathon  ). I have had several freinds and relatives who have recently been diagnosed with cancer. The dearly beloved Commander of our Civil War organization just passed away from lung cancer last Thursday.
What does it involve to become a charity runner at Boston?
Da Do Ron Ron

Good on you, voodoogirl! Taking major liberties with that Chinese quote: "The journey of a thousand miles begins with your first million," I urge us, onwards, back to the moon. Laurie gets to plant a flag, wearing her new C2 swag teeshirt.
