All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 4.8.13

Post by Kona2 » April 9th, 2013, 12:58 pm

ImageMore Springtime in the Rockies....snow is going sideways today ! Springtime was preceded by 50 mph wind gusts - had to chase the grill cover through the fields. Good day to stay inside and get some time on the erg! (And for those of you who will receive other remnants of this storm system...get ready!)

Image 7 days to row (if you're in the northern hemisphere...6 if you're in the southern).

1 FRENCH INDOOR ROWERS TEAM Virtual Club 33,061,637 275 120,224

Image Moonrise and moonset...stuff I didn't know

Dr Jeff Bennett is astronomy professor who also writes award winning books about the moon and space for the younger set - usually featuring Max the Dog. I was perusing Max Goes to the Moon, and was launched down a bunny trail. Maybe you think about it and maybe you don't - but the moon isn't always visible at night....and there are a lot of days when we can see the moon in the daytime sky. I did not realize that the times of moonrise and moonset depend on the phases of the moon.
New Moon - rises and sets with the sun, so we don't see it in the daytime (new moon starts 10 April)
Waxing crescent moon - is a couple of hours behind the sun so it is visible in late afternoon and early evening
First quarter moon - rises around noon and sets around midnight, so is visible much of afternoon and all evening
Full moon rises and sets opposite the sun - so it is above horizon all night long
Waning moon - rises a few hours after sunset and sets a few hours after sunrise
Third quarter moon - rises around midnight and sets around noon

So now you know!

More major milestones headed our way in the next day or two! Da Do Ron Ron is breathing on 7 million, and Ronnie is closing the gap on 4 million at a rapid pace! Bobbie is SO close to ONE MILLION METERS! Whoop, whoop - way to stay with it !! The new rowing year will be here before you know it, and with it comes the Global Marathon Challenge to kick off the new rowing season. Life gets busy, and some days you just can't fit rowing in very easily, but you KNOW you're going to give the half marathon and maybe the FULL marathon a good try....get ready !!

Season meters as of 343/365 = 141,299,510 m

Total meters on the day = 310,870 m

Oars in space (participation) = 22 percent

Every time I see the moon in daytime. I think of the people who are having nighttime, and not seeing the moon.
Now, was it just me, or did anybody else hear a whispered voice saying " and there shalt not be any waning until WEC is complete."

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 4.9.13

Post by Kona2 » April 10th, 2013, 11:23 am

Image Whew....the NCAA tourneys are over, and March Madness of the trademarked kind can fade away until next year. While the Men's NCAA Championship game was a hard fought battle that was exciting to watch, this year's Women's Championship game was a rout that was PAINFUL to watch. It's all in the journey, right? Now....onto horse racing...and the NBA championship (ha! you thought that college basketball championships took forever....wait until this one goes on and on until June)....but I digress (like that never happens  ). But wait....BEFORE all those other championship runs begin...we have a teammate to cheer onward because this Monday, 15 April is not just for taxes...it's the 117th running of the Boston Marathon! bg is running in this once again, and I believe we have a photo from a previous year of Barbara as she gets set to run with our team name Luna-Tics written down her arm. Yep, we're running with participant number 21410 through the course. Better lace up your running shoes!!

Image You go, girl ! Bring in the finisher's medal !

Image The unicorn is the chosen symbol of the Boston Athletic Association.

Michelle Snyder of examiner.com wrote last year that "Winning the marathon could be likened to the happy ending in a fairy tale; both are earned with great sacrifice while hoping you don't die." Pursuing a marathon finish is like the pursuit of unicorns who are strong, fast, and hard to catch. Unicorns also depict integrity as runners pursue a prize that is unattainable by most, and achieved through honest effort and competition. bg, like others on the team who have pursued long distance goals in many sports, has been preparing for this run practically since her shoes crossed the finish line last year. Cool stuff.

Season meters as of 344/365 = 141,701,774 m

Total meters on the day = 402,264 m

Oars in space (participation) = 27 percent
