I emailed C2 and the answer I got was that is indeed the case. It logs on your day/time.
Hmm. I'm still not convinced. We just got home, after a few days at the beach. Before we left, last Thursday, AJ rowed between 9:30 - 11:00 pm, Pacific time; and uploaded from the log card. It posted as Friday, in the challenge. (Which thrilled him, as it was his second 10K Thursday workout, but gave him a "free" day on Friday!) Obviously, this is not the case for Oz and NZ, etc., but that's just part of the mystery. If it really mattered, we could post manually for the "correct" day in our home time zone, and simply delete the duplicate log card entry.

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 3.13.13

Post by Kona2 » March 14th, 2013, 10:46 am

Image Almost halfway through March Madness ... stayin' alive on the honor boards?!!

Hooboy! What a difference a week makes! The number of 5K Honor Board rowers has dropped from 5452 to 1674....a seventy percent whooooosh. The number of 10K Honor Board rowers has dropped from 2533 to 608...a seventy-six percent whoooosh. And the number of 2500 m Honor Board rowers has dropped from 129 to 34...a seventy-four percent whoooosh. These numbers and percentages flex as the rowing community uploads meters - and not everyone uploads them after each rowing session. Still, there are some things to celebrate every day. One of the big milestones of progress this year is to have a 2500 m Honor Board. Important stuff ! So, if the planets have aligned for you (and the buddy system truly works) and you find that you are STILL on the Honor Board...grit your teeth, stay on the erg, and HANG IN THERE! There is sometimes more psychology in rowing than technique...or something like that. :D Everyone has different goals and beliefs...the important thing is that you believe that you can make your goals. We like to help you do that.

Image Another episode...

Lots of us have said "it takes a village" when talking about raising children. And sometimes it takes a whole community plus the virtual ones. We had a 6th grade class from a charter school in Rochester, NY observing our Denver Bike Congress yesterday. The whole school has about 210 students (which may amaze many teachers and parents on this team), and it only has one sixth grade class. Each year, the 6th graders have to pick a topic that they are going to work on throughout the year. This year the topic is how to revitalize bicycling in Rochester. They have partnered with cycling groups in the Rochester area (notably the Rochester Cycling Association), local businesses and health care providers (tying into the reduction of childhood obesity), transportation planners, and now governors and mayors. For their spring break time, these kids split into four groups of 7 and each group visited a different city known for cycling: Madison, Austin, Boulder/Denver, and Portland. Given the small enrollment and the largeness of the trip, I mistakenly assumed that these were kids from some kind of prep school, maybe with wealthy families. Nope. But they've worked hard with their community to get sponsorship and to get other kids outside of their class involved in getting more exercise every day. In return, the group we met with yesterday had just come from a meeting with Denver's mayor. They met with the governor the day before. Their project's already produced some amazing learning about what each of them can do to make a goal a reality, how to work on a big team project, and how one good connection can lead to another. So why does believing you can do big things have to stop ?!

Season meters as of 316/365 = 130,809,472 m

Total meters on the day = 444,542 m

Oars in space (participation) = 25 percent

National Pi Day

Post by Kona2 » March 14th, 2013, 11:01 am

Image It's Pi day....otherwise known as 3.14

Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the world. Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159. Just think, the celebration will be carried out even further when 2015 rolls around !

And you thought National Mole Day (October 23rd) was the only one.... :lol:

So true. Today was the first one where I thought this really is madness :evil: Well only 12 more to go. Thanks Kona2 for the motivation.

Once again the geeks in my company celebrated Pi Day. So this year I figured I would kick it up a notch by baking one of my favorites... a Finger Lakes region Naples Grape Pie!

It was yummy! If you missed your chance to celebrate today you get a second chance on Pi Approximation Day which is observed on July 22 (or 22/7 in day/month date format), since the fraction 22⁄7 is a common approximation of π.

Any excuse to have pie is a good excuse!

- Peter

P.S. Congrats to everyone on all the amazing milestones & a big warm welcome aboard to Kris H!!!

Crikey, I'm feeling very much like a part-timer these days.

Doing lots of short-distance sprint work presently... And trying to get my achillies back on track.

Good luck and good weekend to all! :)

Cheers, BBB

Whoop, whoop and hooyah! Somehow our resident artist has found time to put in a ton of meters throughout the year AND give us great graphics for the Holiday Challenge, the January Virtual Team Challenge and the Military Challenge! Congratulations, AJ, on achieving a TWO million meter rowing season! We wish you many, MANY more!

You will, of course, be posting the recipe for this pie, sometime soon??
Naples Grape Pie Recipe
4-5 Cups Concord Grapes
3/4 Cups sugar
3 tbsp. quick cooking tapioca
1 tbsp. lemon juice
Pie dough (for two 9 inch pie crusts)
2 tbsp. butter or margarine

Directions:
Prepare your filling at least several hours before baking:
1. Pop the skins off the grapes by pinching them at the end opposite the stem and set them aside.
2. Put the pulp (without water) into a heavy pan, bring it to a boil, stirring occasionally, reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes.
3. Press pulp through a colander or food mill to remove the seeds.
4. Pour the hot pulp over the skins and let the mixture sit for couple of hours (Allow the tannins to work and brings out the rich color).
5. Add the sugar, tapioca and lemon juice, mix well; let stand while preparing pastry.
6. Preheat oven to 400 degrees; fill the prepared 9 " pie with the grape mixture and dot with butter or margarine.
7. Prepare top crust and complete with a decorative edge (Pi symbol is optional). Bake for 30 min, or until golden brown.

For Danwho :D

Circumference = 2*pi*R
Radius = Diameter/2 = 9 inches/ 2 = 4.5 inches
Circumference = 2*pi * 4.5 inches = 2*3.14 * 4.5 inches
Circumference = 28.26 inches
