Great rowing over the weekend, one and all! That was quite a bit of research on my reindeer name, K2. It so happens that our regional pronunciation of the name is not very close to the spelling: Kootenai is really Koot-nee out here ( like the waterfoul and the body part).

Hooboy! Baz has crossed the 100K milestone in rowing meters (pretty sure that his climbing meters will come in handy on some of those rooftops). So many activiites and goals to choose from, and certainly a whole continent worth of adventuring to help choose a reindeer name. Instead, going to focus on Baz's current goal to summit an 8,000 meter mountain....because he will surely make the summit.

Congratulations, Baz, on earning the Concept2 donation and freeing your reindeer, Summit !
And loving it!

And talking about Lord of the RIngs...TomO, Janet and I will be in that area in January. When I was last climbing in New Zealalnd it really does look like it, not surpsingly so...but we are fans of the Lord of the Rings, that is for sure!

Cheers, BBB

Congratulations to all of you who have earned their Concept2 donation...

In case you were wondering... I was finally able to get back on my ERG this morning after an absence of nine days. I came down with the whatever strain of cold and flu that has been circulating through Southern New England. I'm not back to 100% yet but I did manage to log 8K this morning which put me at 96K. My goal of reaching 200K by the 22nd isn't looking as good as it did but with some luck I'll get there.

Hope every else is managing to stay healthy!

Another Reindeer .... it's Tardis !!

Might be out on a limb here, but am pretty sure that Matt F uses a Dr Who photo for his team profile, so I am going with a "Who" theme. Dr Who series depicts the adventures of a Time Lord—a time travelling, humanoid alien known as the Doctor. He explores the universe in his 'TARDIS', a sentient, telepathic time-and-space-travel machine that flies through the time vortex. This is a bit different than going through some bubble universes instead of sidereal space. Either way, you get good adventures in space and we're all for that. The Dr Who program got its start in 1963, and is getting ready to celebrate it's 50th anniversary. Wowzer and whoa.

And, as some will remember, the 1960s were a pretty busy time for a lot of different cultural changes. 1966 comes around and we get Dr Seuss's How The Grinch Stole Christmas...way before the Jim Carey version, but still very fun. WIth The Grinch, we also get Whoville....and the Whoville Choir singing its Welcome Christmas song. Throw all that in the mix with Dr Who, and you get:

Another Reindeer...it's Buster !!

There is a certain good karma that goes with not only being a San Francisco Giants and 49ers fan, but also checking in as the 49th reindeer on the team. The teams and the city offer up some wonderful suggestions for reindeer names. This reindeer is going to be named Buster, though - after Buster Posey, the SF Giants catcher! :D

Congratulations, Robyn, on earning the Concept2 donation and freeing your reindeer, Buster !

Wowzer, there were so many bunny trails I could have followed once I went to see what was up with Mt Ida and Arkansas. Rock shops everywhere! Arkansas's motto is The Natural State (or at least it became that after the mid-90s). Geologists say that Arkansas and Brazil produce the finest crystal in the world...and there's a Crater of Diamonds State Park, so there are some real diamonds there as well as the so-called Arkansas diamonds which are faceted quartz crystal. All this about rocks, and rockhounds, reminded me of kidhood when you'd find quartz or you'd find mica and try to convince your buddies that it was gold and diamonds and stuff. :D
I do like what Wiki has to say about Arkansas quartz: The ancient Ouachita Mountain area of Arkansas was considered a mystical location by Native American tribes. The hot and cold springs in the "Valley of the Vapors" (now the city of Hot Springs) was considered a place of peace for even warring tribes. Shaman traveled to "power points" in the mountains where the earth's energy was said to be the strongest, and the beautiful Arkansas quartz of the Ouachitas were believed to have sacred and spiritual significance
.

Congratulations, Tammy, on earning the Concept2 donation and freeing your reindeer, Crystal !

Another Reindeer...it's Rocket !!

Arkansas not only has a lot of crystal....it has caves and caverns. Jim, Jay, Bobbie, Tammy and Roger could probably best tell us which caves are worth the spelunking time - and whether or not to go on a caving adventure with a guide. Crystal domes inside of caverns that are eight stories high...know your stalactites and stalagmites. With all those caves, and a good sense of adventure, time to be rockhounds... I think we've found our reindeer....and we're going to call him Rocket!

Congratulations, Roger, on earning the Concept2 donation and freeing your reindeer, Rocket !

Jeff P of Houston just recently celebrated getting his 3 millionth lifetime meter, and he's well on his way towards number four now. His reindeer is meteor....sometimes space bits do come down to earth...
