Ugh! Haven't rowed in many days due to my semi-annual cold ... Starting to feel better, but may not get a row in until Thursday. :(

Hope you all are doing well! Thanks to Angela for stepping up and keeping us motivated!

As predicted, now that Le Tour de France has started and I've increased my distance, my time per set is stretching out again. I simply can't row like a Fury AND do 25 - 30 K per session: to wit, I completed my first 3 sets of 5k within 25 minutes (less that 2:30 / 500m); the fourth stretched out closer to 26 minutes and the 5th was at 27 minutes and I really had to force myself to do that after a 10 minute break.

So, it's back to being slower from the starting gate so I have enough energy to go the distance and not wear myself out for the day. I seem to recall reading somewhere that joggers get a better fat-burn than sprinters anyway (likely due to longer sessions), so I'll apply that to rowing.

Hope everyone is enjoying the summer. And three cheers to our record keeper!

All the best,
Heather

Ahoy!

The Team TimbukTOO roster has increased to 39. Welcome, Tom W!

I'm posting late again today so I may have some of today's meters included here:

8 on the rowers Sat-Sun morning:
Heather R 25,000
Keir P 15,823
Joshua B 13,920
George  M 12,806
Angela P 10,256
Tom W 9,511
Jack F 7,579
John B 3,284

Heather, I liked your reference to the Giro in a previous post and I was thinking of rowing each day that the TDF riders are on their bikes. Then my husband told me that there are only 2 rest days so I'm not so sure I can keep that up.

Hope everyone is enjoying Sunday - Monday will be here soon enough.
(Jim C, hope your are feeling better!)

Still not feeling well, but feeling well enough to eek out 5K at a pretty good pace. There is something going around up here in the Northeast that is essentially like a nasty six-week cold. I am on Day 11 of this thing, and it really sucks! :? Anyway, I hope you are all doing well. Keep up the great rowing!

Hi.

With Neil Q reaching 400k and Jim C reaching 300k, I looked at my next milestone which I hadn't realized was close.

Here are individual milestones (25k increments to 100000, 50k after 100000) - though I guess since these are in km they aren't miles and if we're imagining we're on water they aren't stones - hmmmm...
If you would prefer 25k increments, just let me know.

Yes, I've tried in the past to keep up but THEY get daily massages and physio, their meals are all prepared and they just generally get pampered (not to mention being athletes at the top of their form), so even though I try to row longer each day, I take my rest days when I need them. By the end of the tour I might be back up to 30 k/session which with a bit of luck I'll be able to keep up through August in time for the September challenge, but without the great motivator of the race, I slouch off. C'est la vie.

All the best,
Heather
