Do you bring home the work dogs every day?

I need to learn how to post pictures.

Bassets were bred to run all day (!) at a slow pace through heavy underbrush, tracking game.
My first Basset, Sophie, once jumped over a couch I had. I was sitting on the couch, facing the fireplace, and I was startled by Sophie, flying over the couch close to where I was sitting, towards the fireplace.

Here's my brood, although the individuals vary over time due to predation. We have great blue herons and great egrets that come around marauding from time to time. They're just garden-variety goldfish, but they're fun! The largest get to be around 8 or 9 inches long.

I never would have guessed about the running!! Who knew. It's interesting to me how we've developed all these wonderful and divergent dog breeds over time for specific human needs, and now hardly anyone ever uses them for what they were bred to do.

For pictures, you can either upload them to a picture service like Flickr and then add image links with the post editor formatting "Img" button, or you can add them as attachments (see the "Upload attachment" tab below the post editor). I go the Flickr route. There are a bunch of services out there, I think... Would love to see pics!

Very pretty, Lisa. There's a Zen quality to the scene that I really like.

So, have you named the little guys?

Apparently by being able to break 450w in one minute. Also probably being able to squat and deadlift 1.5 to 2 x body weight. :-)

That is very cool. Are they trained in any particular area (expertise? Specialty? what would you call that for a working dog)?

I did start out naming them, but it got hard to remember who was who, plus they actually change their markings as they grow, so recognizing them and remembering their names got tough. Then they started getting eaten, and it's harder when you have something with a name get eaten (or worse, left half-eaten on the side of the pond!)
