Very welcome, you have a good base build for rowing. If you get to work for a good while you could perform very well!

That's great Dread but you will have to reveal your real name I am afraid! The first challenge with C2 is January starts logging meters Jan 1 for VTC. There is still time to do the December CTC at http://www.c2ctc.com - see details above. Signing up is a bit clunky - need to go in and join and then go back and "rejoin" to get set up. Each month is totally different and a good challenge outside comfort zone.
Henry is normally in charge of updating the VTC entry to 2018? Then we just have to sign up and log all our meters..
See you "over the ditch" sometime! (The NZMG is a good one to do) Or you can come to Oz - 2018 pan pacific games in october.

Welcome!

What sort of times were you doing 15 years ago? Just trying to see how long / short a time we'll be sharing a CTC boat. I think our versions of "come back" are going to be on 2 different trajectories!

Cheers

Hi all

My name is Erik
Sub 20 5k and sub 7 2k. back then i wasnt to worried about times but was more doing the erg for fitness. i did however clock up a million meters a year which i hope to at least get back to and build on as i get back into it. currently doing the beginner Pete Plan. and have a 5k to do tonight.
been back on the erg for nearly a week LOL with some sporadic use over the last 7 weeks while i was doing a 6 week cross fit program. the sporadic use bought back how much i enjoyed the erg. far more than running which i loath. so here i am.

Yip, 2 very different come backs! Those times are my very long-term goals but will take me a lot longer to get there than you I'm sure.

Hi Erik.

Sub 7 is 1.45 pace. 20 min 5k 2.00. Those really don,t match. 20 min 5 k is roughy 153/55 over 2k. That would be 7.32/40
For 7 flat you need a much faster 5.

back then i didnt really take much notice of my times. other than the oh its under 20 or its under 7 type of thing... wasnt involved in any groups like here and didnt register on the concept site. i made a excell spreadsheet to keep a track of meters and that was it.
all this stroke rate/ splits etc is all pretty new to me and am still getting to grips with a lot of the abreviations etc.
as my fitness and meters increase my times should start to drop. currently i have done 1 x 5k (day 1 of week 1 on the BPP) and that was at 21:31 and am doing the day 3 week 1 5k tonight. i havent yet done a 2k so will say that my time will probably be rather higher than 7min.
at the moment all i want to do is complete BPP and get some meters under the belt. times will come later.

Dave

gonna be a while before im down at that end of the times. probably mid year or later i suspect.
also just found out that my wife has planned our holidays away and i may be without access to a gym for about 10 days (2nd to 12th Jan) which really sucks. so will probably make a restart on the BPP when i get back if i cant find a local gym that allows casuals. which also means that my goal of doing at least 20 days in jan has just been shot out of the water. one of the gyms that are near where we are going does allow casuals but its $20 per session which is massive considering my gym only charges $8 per week. there are a couple of others so will check them out in the next day or so

did the IRL 5k tonite with Terry
mine @1:52.6
Terry's @1:56.8

happy enough but slower than last year I am afraid - the "handicap" adjustment is still pretty kind of course especially for Terry
one more and we will have our 8 again - doing Ok!!

Nicely done, Lindsay. I'm planning on doing mine after Christmas, but nowhere near those times!

Managed to do a 5k tonight 23:32.9 (2:21.2) for the IRL - not up to the standard of most here, but a PB for me by 17s. Totally unexpected as I've done hardly any training since spraining my ankle 2 months ago, and was sure my fitness had headed well south. Also managed a CTC last week, although doubt that will count for much. That's a fun challenge this month, trying to work out how to divide the rests. I did 0:30r, 2:30r, 2:30r, 1:00r, 2:30r - the 1:00r wasn't long enough. Separately, I started a 4 x 3:00/3:00r, but bombed on the 2nd 3:00 so won't be trying that way again.

The Indoor Rowers League is an individual and team event running September to April organised by a Frenchman as a project. We have a team of 8 called the High Flyers. There is a system of results adjustment based on how close to WRs your times are in attempt to equalise - it is very friendly towards high performing oldies.
There is a different challenge each month starting with 4' then 1mile, 6344m, 5000m, 1 minute, 10k, 2k and 500m. You could still do monthly if inclined to compare with others 50+
You may also hear of the Nonathlon - a season long event that accumulates points for all the ranking distances with adjustments for age and weight as well

By definition a PB is a great achievement regardless of the time, so well done on that. Also a confidence boost that you might not have lost as much fitness as you thought, so you should be able to shave some time off that as you get back into the routine.

I need to have another go at the CTC. I paced the last one with rest equal to the work interval, mainly because that's how I did it for the original 2014 challenge and I wanted to compare how far I'd fallen back. Because of the Holiday Challenge I didn't have much chance to experiment with variations, so I'll do the same rest splits when I have another go next week.
