All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 2.11.12

Post by Kona2 » February 12th, 2012, 12:06 pm

Whoa....winter returns (or maybe arrives finally) to the Rocky Mountain states. Great day to row indoors! Something about those single digit temperatures....brrrrrrrisk.

Stats were captured a bit early today (comparatively  ), so hope I didn't miss your numbers. If so, we'll catch them the next time!

Thanks for the posts team! And have I signed up for next year yet, no not yet, still digesting this one! But must say I think there is unfinished business, plenty of low hanging fruit in terms of improving my time, which was much slower than I thought it could have been (but the aim was to cross the finish line regardless of time :) )

As a matter of interest, in the one day event both the mens and womens was won by the 'Ushers' a married couple who have won it previously, Richard about five times now, but both winning in the same year is a first for the event.

Richard finished in about 11 1/2 hours (one-day!) and passed me just before the finish line and he even gave me words of encouragement as I headed to the line (as he passed at a million miles an hour!).

We spend the day relaxing in Christchurch today, and will visit the Antartic Centre before returning home tomorrow.

I've got some great pictures that were taken on the course by the official photographic team, who are flown in by helicopter because of the terrain, so I'll get some of them up over the next few days...

And here I am indulging!! Congratulations to all the achievements on the team over the past week!!!
Cheers, BBB B)

Bazz's accomplishment has been such an inspiration!
I spent my week letting my muscles take turns screaming at me in protest for the rigorous workouts I've been putting them through. In an effort to drop the pounds that I put on in the last few months since my thyroid quit working I started back on a weight training program that I did with great success four or five years ago. But my body has insisted on reminding me that I'm not as young as I used to be  Oh my aching body :!: Along with weight training I have re-introduced running very short, and slow distances, although I continue with my greatest love...rowing, for the sprint workout portion of the training. It's not as long a workout as I've been doing but much more intensive. I haven't seen results yet, but I remember from the last time I did this 3 month program that the first month was a building month and after that I saw results. So here's to hoping for success over the next few months. :)
It's great to see the new Luna-tic members and I welcome each of you. This is such a supportive group of people, and like I said, an inspiring one as well. I really enjoy the posts, and the encouragment that comes from everyone on this team. I know you're going to love them too!

Well done Baz... that's a major league 'onya you've earnt there!
I am a bit of a Mark Webber (F1 Redbull team) fan, and noted he tweeted Richard Usher some encouragement before the event... it went something like "the young guns would kill to have what you have up your sleeve... wisdom!" Looks like he was on the money!
There's a thought, why don't you give the Mark Webber Tasmania Challenge a go next time its on? Five days and 350klms for this one... I could happily come along as a Team Komodo support crew member, (although I might be busy talking F1 stuff to Mark when you need me to help unload the Kayak   )

Kudos to you too Jodi - its always tough putting in the hard yards at the start of any exercise program... trust you can stick with it and get to see the benefit soon!

Finally, welcome aboard Fritz! You will find all sorts of achievers here in this team, and in all sorts of sports and endeavours. I hope you enjoy your time with us, and that it is a long "stay". B)

Congratulations and kudos to you Baz for your major achievement. The race seems so impossible but you managed it with ease.

As this morning's snow changes to rain, I have my favorite Dan Fogelberg song running through my mind, " the snow turned into rain" from "Same Auld Lang Syne". I guess I will pop his cd in and do my second row of the day.

I came across the finish line around 5.30pm ish, and I must say it was a welcome sight after a gruelling two-days, but I enjoyed the event greatly.

I'll post more on it later. But K2 was "Spot" on the money in an earlier post. I had the tracker with me on the first cycle this morning, but forgot to transfer to the kayak at transition. My sister thought I made a great time on the final cycle leg of 70 klms, but it was Janet, & TomO in the camper trailer

And what a great job they did looking after me...

And thanks to my Luna-tic mates for all your support and interest!!

Back in Sydney and thought I'd post a couple of pictures. I wasn't the fastest time, in fact one of the slowest, but the goal was to finish and I'm happy with that. Plenty of room for improvement if I get back there again...

Over a beer in Christchurch last night I recall a suggestion (brother-in-law) that Mt Cook on the South Island was there to be climbed; crikey, best I give up beer!

Cheers, BBB
