Very impressive fireworks over your Coathanger. Now I don't have to watch the (yawn) crystal ball in Times Square, re-run in 7 hours' time for the left side of the US.

Funny you should mention it, a few days ago there was one in the dogs' water bowl that I keep in the garage for them, still alive (briefly), in fact they are a problem for people with swimming pools, often found in them!

Welcome to the year-round team, Eva-Kristin! We wish you many good rowing sessions !

Hooboy! The teams are off to a flying start! Half moons in the sky everywhere - I'd better check our coordinates and make sure we're not orbiting Jupiter! I've captured the day's numbers, and will post stats later in the day.

The challenge team roster is open - and everyone has to elect to participate in a challenge - so if you haven't signed on yet, please take a moment and go to the teams section of your online logbook and scroll down to the current challenge. Then row some more!

Happy New Year (emphasis on the happy!) It's going to be a good year - we can make it so !

Happy new year Luna-Tics! I, for one, am sooo happy to see the door hitting 2011 in the butt! It had some highlights (30th anniversary, 50th birthday, and the birth of a grandson), but the rest was an uphill struggle that I hope to have seen the end of.
So, bright and early this morning,...actually it wasn't bright, it was quite foggy and dreary outside, but I sent my husband off on his 5 mile run and made my way over to my workshop/gym to get that New Years Day HM in. After taking a week off to recover from a cold I was surprised to get a PR, beating my last HM by over 3 minutes! Now that's the way to start the new year!
So how about you Bazzy, Andrea, Chris (Minnie) and BG? Were you able to row the New Years Day Half Marathon? How'd it go?

Excellent! And congrats on the PB Jodi!

I completed my New Year's HM about an hour ago, setting a PB as well (not too hard given that it's only my 2nd ever). I beat my previous one by about 40 seconds to finish at 1:28:52.0 (I rowed slower, but took less & shorter breaks). It was easier than the first HM to make it through, but I'm very glad it's behind me :).

Happy New Year to everyone from me as well (of course).
Wim (attempting to get back into rowing shape).

Oh, cool bananas ... Jodi, you are so obviously a morning person! Congrats on your PB for the half marathon. I haven't had my second cup of coffee yet, and am thinking it will be at least 8 hours before I start to row my first HM of 2012. Right after we scarf down yet another heavy traditional meal, this one including corned beef, cabbage, and black eyed peas. (Not my favorite fare, but it signifies "health, wealth, and happiness" and I'm not one to mess with superstition. No, sir-ee.)

Happy New Year, fellow Lunatics.

Hi Jodie, sure did...it was a bit different for me. Normally I row up to 20,000m (almost) every day, but usually do intervals of around 10,000/5,000m with a couple of minutes break between. So yesterday was a little different doing watching the metres countdown from the HM distance. I did pace myself and managed a 1:26.

Well, it sounds like it went well all around. I was able to carve out a personal best at 1:47, and Rumping in Iowa did a personal best as well. I am probably going to be doing intervals myself starting this week as I want to get back into a weight lifting program with a bit of running intermixed. It gives a bit more definition to these old muscles and adds a bit of muscle confusion which will go well with my occasional mental confusion

Thanks for joining with me in the New Years Day HM. It really did make it more fun to know that I had some teammates along for the row. :D

Virtual Team Challenge - Row Lunies, Row!

Post by Kona2 » January 1st, 2012, 7:58 pm

Here's what the overall standings might look like (we don't have an official Concept2 list):

Age Without Limits 900K
Luna-Tics 591,203 K
Ancients 342,715 K
Overcoming Disabilities 317,179 K
Free Spirits 296,458 K
TimbukTWO 242,032 K
Ariel 182,673 K
Team Canada 126,749 K

It's always good to remember that teams and individuals don't have to post their meters daily, just weekly. So there are some teams that just update weekly and there can be some dramatic shifts in standings. And, this is just day 1 - and it's not even the end of the day! The mantra for these Challenges is to row a little extra if you have some time to do this. We've all been edged out of a finishing spot at the last minute...and we didn't like it much.

Virtual Team Challenge 2012 Individual Standings : Luna-Tics 4 pm MST

1 Ron MacBruce 50,195
2 Jim (Jay) Kielma Jr. 50,000
3 Cathie Johnson 42,195
4 Jerry Heath 30,000
5 barbara grandberg 24,136
6 Anthony Parendo 22,277
7 Wim Rumping M 22,120
8 Tammy Gwinn 22,000
9 Roger Gwinn 22,000
10 Kenny Holliman 22,000
11 Katerina Mack 21,097
12 Robyn Lee 21,097
13 Tom Eskridge 21,097

33 Rob Nofziger 2,500
34 Kaylee S 1,600
35 Ashlee S 1,500
36 Ethan S 950

Challenge Meters thru mid-day 1: 591,203 m

Challenge Team Participation so far: 50 Percent

And, because we're also quite proud of our other teammates on the Overcoming Disabilities Challenge Team - and their challenge cause - would like to continue to celebrate their challenge team achievements, too. The goal: to have BOTH teams in the top ten finishers.

Virtual Challenge Team: Overcoming Disabilities

1 Jonathan Lewis 31,464
