Breath-snatching. The Snowy River is one of southeastern Australia's major rivers. It originates on the slopes of Mount Kosciuszko, Australia's highest mainland peak, and snow melt drains via the eastern slopes of the Snowy Mountains (part of Australian Alps) in New South Wales, before flowing through the Snowy River National Park in Victoria and emptying into Bass Strait. And, since Angelo resides in New South Wales, we'll call his reindeer "Snowy"...
Definitely an oldie-but-goodie movie, but also a great poem. I had to learn it in 7th grade, at school in Melbourne, and can still recite (most of!) it. I think that Dave H is related to the Australian poet, Banjo Paterson. This scene from the movie has the poem voiced-over, and if you don't have 10 minutes to spare, start it at minute 4:

Congrats, all, on a great Holiday Challenge ... such a herd of liberated-n-lit reindeer cavorting around the globe! Merry, merry.
Wow, I love that movie! And the video clip along with the poem gives such a feeling of pride and accomplishment. Again, Wow! Thanks for sharing.
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty & well preserved body, rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, used up, totally worn out, & loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”

Another Reindeer !

Post by Kona2 » December 23rd, 2011, 10:55 am

"Return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear, when from out of the past came the thundering hoofbeats of the great horse Silver!" And with a hi ho, Silver...the Lone Ranger would ride onto our tv screens...ready to unmask evil, fight for truth and justice, all while he was "the masked man." And, like Silver, another reindeer has arrived on the scene! Peter H, who sometimes resides in the Netherlands, has freed his reindeer from the stable. Thinking about the Netherlands, and what might represent a good reindeer name (Windmill....no....Hans Brinker.....no....but there was that bit about the silver skates) led me down a true bunny trail this AM. So listen for the thundering hoofbeats of Silver as he joins all the other reindeer in flight...and congratulations, Peter H, on achieving the 100K milestone in the Holiday Challenge and earning your $2 Concept2 donation. While no mask is required, Peter H does use the anonymous, helmeted race driver...The Stig.....as his avatar...so the masked man's horse Silver seemed appropriate. :D

Congratulations Ron on achieving another 1 million meter plus challenge!!!!! Awesome!
I was looking at the season meter boards and we have 4 Luna-Tics, count them, 4, in the top 25 :) Jay, Ron, Will, and Cathie. That is an amazing stat when you see how many people are rowing. I barely squeaked by last season to number 10 and that was pure luck.
Merry Christmas to all, and have a happy , healthy new year.

All In A Day's ERG: Team Progress Thru 12.22.11

Post by Kona2 » December 23rd, 2011, 1:19 pm

With 69 reindeer (and more on the way), we're pulling a lot of ergs! We're not done yet, though - so even if you have reached a milestone, would really appreciate any extra meters you can provide in the next two days! We are on a true collision course with the $30K goal...as long as we keep the momentum!

First HM; 1:33:51.7
Not bad for an oldtimer...
Also... should reach 1MM on Christmas Day.
Just under 5 months with my rower.
I expect to be a 2MM per year rower.
But... can I reach 2MM in this rowing season, since I didn't have a machine for the first 3 months of the season?
That would mean rowing another million in just 4 months this time.
And I will be away for 10 days in Feb.
Hmmmmm I think I see another goal.
Cheers.

Merry Christmas to all of you from far far away. ;-)

Let's take the opportunity to thank to our personal LUNATICS trainers and sources of motivation:

Kona and Ron, thanks to you for doing all these status mails!

It's for sure a huge bunch of work to do that every day and I really appreciate that!
I'm looking forward to a successful new rowing year in 2012 with many many million meters and a save trip back to planet Earth!

Have a good time with your families!
