CTC for October...Team Rowbo is now on the clock

Post by jkathios » September 14th, 2006, 3:42 pm

What do you think Team Rowbo? What should we select for the challenge.
4 minutes is now a ranking distance and it seems that the shorter distances have been popular. Should we go for something longer?

If we go with shorter distances, I'd say 1609m, 4 minutes, or the 2K straight up. BIRCs are in early November, so I'm not sure if doing the 2K is something those guys/gals would want to do in October. Personally, I like the 2K.

The 10K, 6K, 5K, and 30 mins were done over the past year. What else would be new in the long distance range? I'm certain CTC numbers will drop if we go over 10K. Maybe shorter is the key for now?

Let's get some more folks weighing in on this, eh?

Excuse me not being a member and butting in on your CTC thread.

Go with the MILE (1609m) - that fits nicely with NEWARK and BIRC.

Here's another vote for the mile. Loved it as a runner, and still use the 1609 number in multiples to compare with old running times.
4 minutes is #2 on the list. With shorter distances, several attempts can be made in any given month, though they are definitely more painful!

I could have sworn you wanted that 2K, Doc Kev. OK, time to get some more votes in. Should we limit this to the shorter distances for sure, then? I'd like to post in my profile 3 or 4 options and have everyone decide sooner rather than later!

I can be talked into the 1609, btw if there's no further interest in the 2K. B)

Citroen: What's the deal with the 2K? It's like a psychological thing with CTC, I think. I suppose they could always make it off-limits, if necessary, since there are official competitions throughout the year for it. And whatever happened to the 2500m? The only time I ever went to WIRCs was for that one, and it took a good few minutes longer!

CTC Challenge

I agree with the thought that shorter distances will likely encourage multiple attempts to improve ones scoring times. I know that for the 500 (I think we done the 500 twice this year), I have pulled multiple rows at the same sitting.

Tom, I guess warm-up and cool-down meters can be added to keep you from having "metric crumbs"!

I vote for the mile!

Welcome home, Rick! Hope you got that email. If the mile is it, I'll do a 38391m warmup. No crumbs allowed there.

I think we may have to go with the mile. Hasn't been done yet(the 500 has only been done once, btw, no piece has ever been duplicated as of yet), and BiRCs are too important to mess with. I really *really* wanted 2K, but will vote for the mile for so many obvious reasons. It's a great gauge that rests between the 1K and 2K, not to mention it's an ELM req. :o I checked with UK board members and there's general, yet subtle, consent that the 2K would just not be a good idea for now.

Jim? How are you feeling about things?

Dr. Kev? Is 1609m ok with you?

Anyone or everyone, please feel free to enter thoughts. This will most likely be our final chance to vote as the CTC league may be going to an all-around general democracy on future competitions!
