Re: Forum Flyers
It looks like the CTC organisers need our decision sooner than I expected (i.e. tomorrow morning at the latest ). Given that there seems to be enough enthusiasm for the 0624m challenge here, via the club email I sent as well as on Facebook, with no strong voices of dissent, I'm going to call it final and submit.
Will definitely plan a bit better the next time this rolls around in a couple of years' time!
Cheers

I have also been sick since I got back from my vacation a week ago. Great trip to Brazil, terrible reentry Gave the CTC a go today and very not happy with it but that’s all I’ve got in me right now.

Well Terry has the diagnosis and the prognosis. Perhaps a better deal than getting hit by the x-town bus. And some additional birthdays to anticipate?lindsayh wrote: ↑May 4th, 2024, 11:07 pmMy April training was very limited by work commitments unfortunately with staff on leave - worked every day bar 3 in the month!
Managed the May challenge yesterday and had to work hard to get 3511m. Maybe one later in the month will be better.
Yes Anna we have the pleasure of choosing the next CTC! Normally we take a few suggestions and maybe a vote.
We should try not to be too close to some recent ones. Back in the day FF were the sprint kings and queens and won/top3 a couple outright.
A June theme could 6x 240m or a straight 6240?
BTW the Terry update is not good at all - the diagnosis a lung cancer called mesothelioma which is incurable. It is common here in Oz and related to exposure to asbestos. Usually the time between exposure and disease is decades - 40/50 years is the average. Often those in the building trades, those mining it or exposed from insulation. Treatment can be positive and hold things at bay for years hopefully. Terry is upbeat and optimistic. We are hoping he will have a row soon just to keep moving on.
. . . visa vis the evolution of FF’s mighty task for 06/24:
6x240m
Continuous 6240m
1x624m AKA
Continuous 0624m (Dave’s take )
Ya gotta luvit!
Best to Chris and Sheena for satisfactory repair or replace in the Head of Femur comp.

Hi All,
My entry for this month’s CTC seems to have doubled up and thrown the other boats out of whack too. I have notified the authorities and hopefully it will be rectified asap!
Cheers,
Debbie
P.S. All sorted now

I did nothing with them, but someone/something did. One day my password didn't work, and all attempts to reset it failed. Even the link to report a problem came up with "disabled" when I clicked it. Becoming a new person seemed the only solution. Maybe I'm so old that the forum software considered me dead.jackarabit wrote: ↑June 9th, 2024, 12:51 amHey rookie, what did you do with Don Q. and Yankee runner?

Re: Forum Flyers
Just snuuck in the CTC, shingle flare made any thought of rowing for a couple of weeks out of the question.
On thought for Dave, can you do a send to all reminder all the rowers on the log book, a bit like when you asked for CTC suggestions? That was obviously a reminder that the CTC exists but has changed places.
Looking forward to a more productive JUly!

Thanks for floating Boat V - and best wishes on the recovery from the shingles. I hear it can be quite nasty - and yet another reminder that I really need to get that vaccine.
I just did the July CTC (took advantage of the day off work for Canada day } and was the first entry for the Flyers. [Those Diamonds already have a boat floating!!] I might have another go at it at the end of the month as I see the 6K is one of the "Rowlympic" challenge events.

Re: Forum Flyers
well done Anna
I managed a 6k today as well @2;07 very steady but worked hard enough to get the MHR up close to max so pleased enough.
the other good thing about the 6k is that it is a C2 ranking distance so one that we can compare with others

Re: Forum Flyers
very quiet here indeed
had a go at the Tabata challenge - predictably hard work. took 5 minutes to set up on the Pm!
not sure how to pace it so went a few intervals first and then decided that I could stay under @1:50 as a goal.
2211m @1:48.5 was the result - MHR was pretty high too so happy enough
Sadly the news with my erg buddy Terry (Dargan) is that his mesothelioma diagnosis is now terminal - no treatment has even slowed it down. Horrible thing happening to a genuinely fantastic world class masters athlete.

Re: Forum Flyers
Terrible news about Terry Dargan. His stellar erg scores over the years showed that he was doing his part to stay healthy. Such a shame that something beyond his control bring such a good man down.
