Merry Christmas Flyers! Let your hearts be light.
Thanks Rick!
Hope everyone was able to enjoy a bit of a holiday and get some rest! (Myself I am just recovering from some sort of respiratory (non-COVID) virus. Had to row the last of the Holiday challenge 2000 m a day for the last few days with rates close to 3:00/500
. I am just now starting to get back to being able to row 3000 m in a go.)
Looking at the CTC for December, it looks like we need at least two more women (and one unrestricted entry) to get our last two boats floating. It is a good chance to get a head start on that New Year resolution to "do more ergging"
Coming into January, don't forget we have the Team Challenge - as well as what is looking to be a somewhat controversial selection for the CTC.
Happy New Years everyone!

Hello! I’ve joined (well, actually I joined a couple of months ago but I’ve only just discovered this thread, sorry). Hope that’s ok.
I did some erging in my late 20s, then mainly running until last year when I bought a C2.
Planning to do ctc every month. At the moment my only limiting factor is the weather; I row in our back garden in the UK! Cold is okay (preferable even), rain less so…
Thanks

Hi everyone, brand new here. Just bought my own C2 a few weeks ago. The challenges look like fun. I’m on team for the C2 monthly challenges, but it doesn’t look like they participate in the CTC’s and I’d really love to take part.
Thanks in advance!

Not many rules at FF. Butts on seats, legs moving. Muscle, connective tissue, and cardio/pulmonary apparati stressed in a life-extending and relatively risk-free activity. Sure sounds boring and it is boring. Chest cracking and quad bipasses are a whole lot more exciting. HAVE FUN WITH CTC.

HNY to all.
and welcome to our newcomers great to see you here.
Due to the miracles of world time zones I have been able to complete the challenge already for the first time and now I just wait to see if I can be the first entry. #145 in a row I think
Did them all around @2:08 pace - 4th was the slowest (just) - 1:04.2

Welcome to Neil and Kathy - Always good to have more entries for the CTC (We seem especially short on female entries lately

Good for you Lindsay. I had my first try at it this morning - and failed at the 20 spm restriction for my 2nd interval (Of course - I did not realize that until I had finished all 6
() I am going to have another go at it tomorrow now that I know I will be aiming for each interval somewhere between 1:15 and 1:20, based on today's trial. Going to see if I can set up ergdata to show the number of strokes per interval and then aim for only 25 or 26 per interval. At least the m's count towards the Virtual Team Challenge!
Happy new year to all!

Didn't get time to complete December challenge so got in early for January. Started with 54 then 53.7 53.7 53.1 53.1 then 53 will definitely have to give this one another shot

Happy New Year everone.
Nice job to everyone who completed the Holiday Challenge charity last month. We had 32 Forum Flyers involved, so a decent participation.
Welcome to new members Neil and Kathy. I hope being part of our team provides extra incentive for your workouts.
Good luck to those of us that are attempting the concurrently running January Revolutions and Virtual Team Challenges; I'm sure the Flyers will put in the effort to inspire each other to attain our goals.

Managed to keep the CTC legal this morning at 20 spm or less, despite each first stroke or two being 24 or 25. A few 19s or 18s got the average where it belonged. Sadly, I don't have much power at 20 spm, so my contribution is nothing more than a 'bums on seats' entry.
Our women have stepped up early this month, now we men have to pull our weight.

This was such a frustrating challenge! I started and somehow got 21 spm on the second interval so had to restart. Then I managed under 1 min for each interval except the fifth, when I got distracted by a spider and didn't get started until a second after the rest ended
Not sure if I'll have time to try again later this month.
Funny how I really would have liked the 20 spm limit when I started out rowing in terrible shape and was usually in the low to mid 20s spm for everything; it is absolute torture now to try to slow it down that much and just doesn't feel like I can get a good flow. But it did feel good to really try to make each individual stroke as powerful as possible.

I understand that what one is accustomed to doing is typically easier than what one isn’t but sub-2’ pace @ rate 20 strikes me as very respectable grunt per stroke.

Ugh - I've never liked low-rate (for me) workouts. If I'm just rowing without thinking about my rate, I wind up around 25-27 spm, so 20 spm with any power behind it is kind of a struggle for me. I'm glad to have this cross-team challenge behind me. It's short enough that I managed two solid attempts with a few minutes between them; that had to happen because my fifth interval on my first attempt averaged 21 spm, and I wanted to both stay honest and get it done today. I'm fairly happy that my slowest interval on my second attempt was 58.1 seconds. Let's launch some more boats!

My friends from the USA, Billy and Karen Stross, are planning to do the NZMG. They are both lightweights in their 70s. If you cross paths with them say Hi. They are a friendly couple.
