Teacher Appreciation Week technically happens in May...but MANY days and weeks ought to be part of teacher APPRECIATION week. Like yesterday. It was a travel day for me, and an early early flight. Since Spring Break is somewhat fluid across several weeks in March, knew it was likely to be busy, busy. There were a tremendous number of young people in the gate area, with matching tees. A sports team? No - a bit too young, and quite diverse in athletic ability would be my guess. No, the plane was almost half full of 7th graders on their way to do some volunteer work with some of the churches in Tucson. It was amazing. They cheered and clapped when we took off and landed, and when we encountered turbulence, they raised their arms like they were on a roller coaster. The flight crew was initially overwhelmed (weren't we all!), yet seemed to enjoy the exuberance. The decibel level was mid-range lunchroom. So, once again - any day can be a teacher appreciation day - and it takes some special people to let kids be kids along with the learning process.

Hi everyone! It's been a while since my last login. Hope everyone is doing well.
I'm just getting back to rowing after recovering from a torn bicep tendon. It took six months of PT but I'm rowing again!

Even I cannot make this up...this was in the AZ Daily Star today. Joe Pagac is best known for his murals throughout Tucson - many of which feature bikes, gila monsters and other fun things. Doing a five day hike in a hot dog costume...for a Food Bank Charity...is a unique approach. They were met by the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile at Catalina State Park at the end of their adventure. As always, support your local newspapers (even when they are printed in Phoenix!).
