A Rare Achievement !!
Whoop, whoop and we're suspecting that this milestone means a lot ! Congratulations, Ed, on achieving DOUBLE ORBITER status in Lunie lore, and certainly a Concept2 Hall of Famer. Many aspire to reaching ORBITER status, and completing the 40,075 km necessary to do that, over the course of a lifetime of erging. Getting a SECOND orbit...well, that's just amazing. Getting a second orbit after working through a health issue, that's a lot of determination! Thanks for all you inspire us to do! We wish you many, MANY more celebrations and milestones!
About the Lunie orbiters:
There are now two double orbiters on the Lunie crew: Ed...and David A
There are four orbiters: Ron M, Dan Cox, bg, and hula hula...Minnie.
These are incredible distance achievements that happened over decades of participation.
Thanks Kona! It has been a heck of a ride… lots of movies, music, rowing in different countries China, Korea, Germany and a lot of kilometers in Qatar.
I have enjoyed this ride and the friends here in our group, many don’t know their impact each has on our lives, I am inspired by so many of you. I may never get to my past times or numbers but I am making progress and that is what matters. Thanks again for the shoutout, much appreciated.
Happy Rowing All,
Ed

CLEAR your calendars, Lunies !!!
The Holiday Challenge has the most Challenge participants in the Concept2 Universe. Completing 100K or 200K meters in a month is quite possible, yet adding in all that goes on during the hoiday season makes completion complicated. Even seasoned Concept2 veterans have to make their plans! There will be days when you are ever so thankful to have the ability to say to others and yourself "I'd love to do that, but I am in a rowing or biking or skierging Challenge, and it's an annual thing I do to earn charity dollars." An acceptable and legit reason. Exercise is such a great stress management tool - and if you have a houseful when you don't usually have a houseful, you need your time AWAY. It's so legit. And then there's the FOOD. If you want to eat like a Viking (thank you Gary), you have to work out like a Viking. Half marathons optional. So. Pretend like you have a baby due on Thanksgiving, and wrap up all the prep you need to do for the holidays before the Challenge starts. You might find that getting things set by Thanksgiving is in and of itself a great relief. Three weeks and counting, Lunies. Get ready!
We don't yet know what charities Concept2 has chosen - but there is sure to be something to interest you when they let us know in a few weeks. We'll talk about reindeer soon, too.
From Concept2 - some tips to make being a finisher easier:
Preparing for the Holiday Challenge
If completing 100,000 or 200,000 meters in a month is a new challenge for you, here are some ideas to help you prepare: PS - I added comments.
Download the 2021 Holiday Challenge Suggested Workouts for daily motivation and inspiration. (Maybe there is a 2022 version for this, or maybe we actually should look at 2021 because it's a good template.)
Don't be intimidated! Every year people who have never completed long distances complete the challenge.
Gradually build your workout time. Try adding an extra 1000 meters per day, especially if you don't usually complete 7000 meters at a time.
If you don't usually workout every day, try working out for several days in a row. The workouts can be short, but see how it feels to row/ski/ride more often.
Keep some stretching in your routine or add it if you haven't been doing it regularly.
Think about when you will fit your extra Holiday Challenge workouts into your schedule. If it requires you to workout at a different time of day than usual, try it out ahead of time to see how it feels.
Plan ahead so that you can make up any missed meters due to travel or other commitments.
Pace yourself! Many people have commented that the Holiday Challenge pushed them to do more than they ever thought they could, and it felt great! On the other hand, it is not wise to make a sudden jump in the amount of rowing/skiing/riding you do, so keep this in mind. You can build your daily meters gradually, even during the challenge itself.
