Haven't been erging much in June - went over the handlebars while zooming down a hill near the end of May. Nothing broken but managed to tweak my back (apparently going from 27 kph to 0 kph in 1 second is a bit jarring on the body). Was taking it easy for a few weeks and started back on the erg mid-June. Slowly made it back to being able to row 5 k and posted a time for this month's CTC. A full 1:30 slower than the 5 k I did the day before my tumble - but it got Boat IV floating (Thanks also to our fearless Team Captain, who posted his result just before I posted mine.)
I see we are up for setting the August Challenge for CTC. How do we go about proposing suggestions? (I know it is still a bit early but the time off the erg left me time to dream up some things.)
July gets a bit busy for me, so in case I forget, I would like to submit the following suggestion for August (the 8th month of the year):
Crazy Eights - Triple Crown
3 intervals of 888 m with 88 s (1:28) of rest between the intervals

Eightish in the third degree, A .R. Sounds a plan. Anybody else got a devastating tidbit for the August ctc?
After the endover, I guess you’re pretty pleased to get off light to enjoy your remaining eight lives? Tuck n roll!

Apologies for butting in to your thread, but saw this and thought I should point out that the PM will only allow you to set rests to the nearest 5 secs - so 1:25 or 1:30, but not 1:28. Sorry.

Well rain on my parade - you are correct! Silly me - I thought the fact that it went to the nearest second meant the nearest second (not every 5). As a Canadian, I should have known better, we got rid on our 1 cent piece (penny) and round everything to the nearest 5 cents .
Maybe 80 seconds rest then (1:20)?

Good to hear you're recovering well, and glad my contribution wasn't completely wasted
![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
. I skipped a cycling session to make sure I put an entry in before going on holiday, so maybe that's a sign of putting more focus on the rower
![Confused :?](./images/smilies/icon_confused.gif)
. I was in the middle of moving things around in the spare bedroom and the rower is being stored in the kids' bathroom. I just dropped it into position between the bath and basins, and got the session done. Maybe that's my next challenge to row in each room of the house

Thanks for kicking the process off! Let's just add any other suggestions to yours as they emerge, and then vote some time in the 3rd week of July. So far I'm liking what you've proposed.

and in other injury news........
This time a labral tear (hip) - most unpleasant and possible associated nerve damage. It is taking some time and effort to progress anywhere with it. Likely result is keyhole surgery later in the year, in the meantime we bash on regardless.
Did the CTC, in just under 2:15 pace, and it nearly floored me, that is where we are, 12 month ago, i was having stupid thoughts of building toward sub 18!!! That may wait for a bit.
Great to see the names on there, new and old

Sorry to hear about the injury. Glad you are able to bash on - but don't try to push too hard.
Thanks for the updates on the CTC stats. Can't believe that there are a handful of Flyers approaching the completion of 200 CTC - that's a lot of years of dedication.

I kept putting off the June CTC until I almost forgot! First time on the erg since the May CTC so not loving my time but it was actually a pleasant row so maybe I'll get my act together and row a couple times a week moving forward
Another suggestion for August (which may be a little cruel): 2 km/100 m/2 km/100 m with 2 min rests between.

Thanks for the row - we almost got the 6th boat launched - left with four of us on the dock
Another great suggestion for the August CTC!
Did my first attempt at the July CTC. I entered it on the site, but I consider it more of a placeholder as I wasn't sure how had to push at the beginning - turns out I had a lot left at the end. Will have another go later in the month.

We now have two boats launched.
Like Anna Rae, I started off too conservatively. My target pace was 2k-5, and I realized partway through that I had more in me. I finished it out, rowed an easy 10 minutes, and then gave it a second go at 2k-8. Even with that I was able to hit negative splits. If I were to start from scratch, I'd try to work 2x200 into my warmup to test out my initial target pace, and then adjust from there.
I like the idea of 888m intervals with an allowable rest time, but I'm open.

Blimey is that you being conservative!!!! THat is some awesome speed you have there. You need absolute backing up from the chaps this month. Top three is a possibility.
At the lower end of the scale, you can feel the rowing doing some good. Second attempt, 10 seconds faster, easy does it.

Thanks, Meerkat! I did two attempts on the same day and posted the faster time. I started off the session with the feeling that it's nearly 2k in intervals and that one minute recovery is pretty short, but the recovery seemed fine given how short the actual intervals were. If others want to go in fast, this is a good place to really drop the hammer. It was fun, too!

Elizabeth - you are really tearing up the town (so to speak)!
Not only are you helping us out with an outstanding CTC time, I see you are also top of the Nonathalon as well - and that is
without getting the 100 bonus for completing all the events (at least I am assuming that is you eltgilmore

)

Thank you, Anna Rae! That is indeed me. I'm glad I found the CTC and the Nonathlon - they're a lot of fun.
