Re: Forum Flyers
Skkipper! Almost had you! My fastest was what you posted, couldn't get there with my 2nd interval. Didn't think I had it in me to pull that hard at that rate. As always, thanks for the challenge

Thanks a lot Henry, yeah I think sub 17:30 5k R20 should be within reach. Did a 36:09 10k R20 some weeks ago with large negative splits, so the capacity should be there.hjs wrote: ↑April 23rd, 2021, 10:14 amThats pretty rapid, looks like you pull a 1.44 ish 5k at this rate.Tandstad wrote: ↑April 23rd, 2021, 9:22 amMy contribution for this month

Have been focussing on cycling for the past year. When it's really crappy weather outside i'm still on the C2 for 30 or 60 minute workouts. So the basic rowing conditioning is till there but if you don't row regularly you'll loose of a couple of seconds on your pace. Maybe next winter i'll pick up rowing seriously again

I've set myself the hopeful target of a 7min 2k on 6 June, so by the end of May I should be able to do 1km in the 3 mins 20 secs allowed.
Tonight I did 500m @1:44 r30 for the IRL, albeit after a 5k hard build up and a 1:46.5 500m wu. I expect a bit of pain is required not!

Oof, this is going to be like the 813 m challenge in December but worse because you can't pull harder to finish soonerrtbrouwer wrote: ↑April 28th, 2021, 5:17 am"On behalf of Red Line Rowers, I'd like to let you know that we've chosen a challenge suitable for celebrate the 200th CTC (including one-off challenges and memorial rows). First attempt for the month at the new challenge so did 4 warm-up 3min 20's before final go and managed 970m so happy with that. Don't think I'll get to 1k but will try again later in the month to see if any improvement.

Allan - First attempt for me too! Having COVID jab #1 tomorrow so thought I better get it in before my shoulder starts to really ache. (Rowed at 2:30 pace for the first 3 minutes and then put some extra effort in for the last 20 seconds because I didn't want to end with a distance of 666 )
BTW - There is a post over on the CTC forum. The pace calculator doesn't allow for times that are not whole numbers of minutes. Even though you still row for 3 minutes 20 seconds and post that distance; when your pace is posted on the CTC, it is calculated using a time of 3 minutes. So, my actual pace of 2:30 got posted as 2:15 - I wish it was my true pace.
Jack - haven't heard from you on the Forum recently - but I see you posted a distance on the April CTC right at the last minute to get us another boat floating. Hope you are doing well!

Half marathon done aaaaand giant blood blister oops.
I get callouses really easily and I think the handle is a little fatter than what would be ideal for me but I do not generally find myself gripping hard, so I definitely did not expect this. But I guess it is my fault for trying to distract myself with tv and not paying attention to form .

Beats the devil how a brief burst boosts the score.

Free ego boosts are also good.

The Indoor Rowers League (IRL) season is now over. Our 2 Forum Flyers teams had a total of 19 people registered, and 7 of which completed all of the challenges in the season. And our two teams finished in 20th and 21st place.
Re: Forum Flyers
Well done on the looong row. Protect those callouses - hand moisturiser is good after they heal up a bit. And you're right about technique, try to ensure that you take the catch with a push with the feet and 'then' feel the hang of the hands on the handle - you don't need to grip the handle at all - relaxskkipper wrote: ↑May 1st, 2021, 4:32 pmHalf marathon done aaaaand giant blood blister oops.
