Thanks for the advice! I am thinking such lofty thoughts about doing more than one Hm to build up to the full, so perhaps I can try some of these tricks. I had intended to take breaks at about the 7-ish K marks, just for water or a hydration gel or a quick stretch. A lot of the videos about marathons say to not let the flywheel stop, but I'm not looking to finish in a particular time, I just want to FINISH. As a for instance 15k makes 5k, 4k, 3k,2k,1k. Set up as variable intervals you could have a minute rest or no rest at all but mentally seeing 5k on the screen instead of 15k really helps and also the work periods get shorter as you go along. It also works for a HM too, I have done a couple recently when I really didn’t think I could do it. Work periods of 6097m, 5k, 4k, 3k, etc. made it do-able. Of course to count as a HM you have to set it up as 21097m but I took a short break at 15k, 9k etc and although the clock kept ticking the method still worked for me knowing that I would allow myself a brief stop for a mop and a quick sip of water. Kept my HR at 120 average, and slow rolled it. I know I can get through this weekend's 10 and 11 with no issues, but next week should be interesting. I'm really going to try to nail this streak!

Still hanging in! Yes, now that we have made it this far, it would be tragic to bail now! That’s interesting I wonder why they say not to let the flywheel stop unless they are thinking about the monitor shutting down. If the monitor stops then you will have lost the row, not the distance already rowed just the set up for the marathon or HM. It would be advisable to find out just how long the monitor stays ‘live’ so to speak. I think mine lasts for a few minutes and that’s after the flywheel has stopped. I have never tackled a marathon, thought about it a few times and then quickly came to my senses! From what the speaker says about the flywheel, it's about the larger effort needed to get it started again rather than keep it going. I am pretty sure it's more about the finish time in cross fit games, and that is soooo not what I'm doing I don't care what time it takes (ok, I do care somewhat) as long as I finish the HM at least. Hey guys, I'm back for a surprise visit. Focus has really been on cycling last year. Got my racing licence again and have my first official TimeTrial planned next saterday. Sadly real racing won't be hapening soon because of the pandamic. I've just put in a time for the april cross team challange. Got 2663m on my first 10 minutes (1:52.6) and 2673m on my second interval (1:52.4). Very happy with that score considering I hardly ever row anymore.

APRIL FOOLS CHALLENGE COMPLETE FOR ME!!! I made it too. Felt strong as a bull through the first 13 days, but began tiring and struggled on the 14th and 15th. Today I totally bonked during my normal workout and couldn't finish it. Thank goodness it didn't go to 16 days.

Me four! Last day I had to break it into 3 rows of 5000 m - didn't even have enough energy to check in on the Forum when I was all finished (just enough to put some toppings on a homemade celebration pizza). In looking over the stats compiled by JonT of the FreeSpirits https://freespiritsrowing.com/challenge ... enge_teams I see that we had a much better year than 2020 in the World Erg Challenge. We moved up from 42nd last year to 21st this year, doing more than double the total meters that we had done in 2020.
