:D I didn't bail

Kept my HR at 120 average, and slow rolled it. I know I can get through this weekend's 10 and 11 with no issues, but next week should be interesting. I'm really going to try to nail this streak!

It might feel both great and really weird to NOT row on the 16th, LOL,
I must admit that the April Fools Challenge totally passed me by  My suggestion for tackling the longer distances from someone that hates long distance is to break it into chunks. As a for instance 15k makes 5k, 4k, 3k,2k,1k. Set up as variable intervals you could have a minute rest or no rest at all but mentally seeing 5k on the screen instead of 15k really helps and also the work periods get shorter as you go along. It also works for a HM too, I have done a couple recently when I really didn’t think I could do it. Work periods of 6097m, 5k, 4k, 3k, etc. made it do-able. Of course to count as a HM you have to set it up as 21097m but I took a short break at 15k, 9k etc and although the clock kept ticking the method still worked for me knowing that I would allow myself a brief stop for a mop and a quick sip of water. Just a thought :D
Thanks for the advice! I am thinking such lofty thoughts about doing more than one Hm to build up to the full, so perhaps I can try some of these tricks. I had intended to take breaks at about the 7-ish K marks, just for water or a hydration gel or a quick stretch. A lot of the videos about marathons say to not let the flywheel stop, but I'm not looking to finish in a particular time, I just want to FINISH. Just being able to do it makes this rubenesque 40-something mom feel super proud.

Glad to see you didn't bail! Let's try to encourage each other as I too am dreading the coming week.

Keep on rowing!
How are you doing with it this week? I did yesterday all in one go because I was able to carve out the time, and today I'm breaking it into two pieces. I'm going to start the second piece pretty soon, 6k left of the 13. Tomorrow and Thursday are super busy workdays, I might be breaking into three or more to get through this challenge - it would be tragic to bail in the last three days!!!!!
Still hanging in! Yes, now that we have made it this far, it would be tragic to bail now! Only two days left - definitely will be taking a break from the erg on the 16th!

That’s interesting I wonder why they say not to let the flywheel stop unless they are thinking about the monitor shutting down. If the monitor stops then you will have lost the row, not the distance already rowed just the set up for the marathon or HM. It would be advisable to find out just how long the monitor stays ‘live’ so to speak. I think mine lasts for a few minutes and that’s after the flywheel has stopped. I have never tackled a marathon, thought about it a few times and then quickly came to my senses! I admired anyone brave enough to do one! :D

From what the speaker says about the flywheel, it's about the larger effort needed to get it started again rather than keep it going. I am pretty sure it's more about the finish time in cross fit games, and that is soooo not what I'm doing :-P I don't care what time it takes (ok, I do care somewhat) as long as I finish the HM at least. May is almost here!!!

Hey guys, I'm back for a surprise visit. Focus has really been on cycling last year. Got my racing licence again and have my first official TimeTrial planned next saterday. Sadly real racing won't be hapening soon because of the pandamic. I've just put in a time for the april cross team challange. Got 2663m on my first 10 minutes (1:52.6) and 2673m on my second interval (1:52.4). Very happy with that score considering I hardly ever row anymore.

Cheers,

Ronald

Nice! We can always use the help. Good luck on your TT if it happens. Started having gravel races, MTB and TT's in my area lately.

APRIL FOOLS CHALLENGE COMPLETE FOR ME!!! I feel like I just hiked a mountain for the first time again, I wish that some balloons dropped from the ceiling when I finished my third row of the day and can call this one complete.

This also brings my total for the World Erg Challenge to a little over 246k. I'm in utter amazement of myself, I really didn't think I could pull off the April Fool's challenge physically, let alone not have a breakdown to balance work. (I may or may not have come close today....)

Are you finished too? How did you do? :)

Congratulations! Well done.

I made it too. Felt strong as a bull through the first 13 days, but began tiring and struggled on the 14th and 15th. Today I totally bonked during my normal workout and couldn't finish it. Thank goodness it didn't go to 16 days.

Hi! I hope it’s ok but I think I have just joined your team. Will have a good read through the posts here to work out what I need to do. In the meantime, shall I just carry on rowing?! :D

Welcome Jody! Here is the New Member Guide so you can get started and join the CTC (Cross Team Challenge)! There are no team challenges going on through Concept2 at the moment so I think everyone is just following their own plans and working on this month's CTC. Are you new to rowing?? -Sheena

Me four! Last day I had to break it into 3 rows of 5000 m - didn't even have enough energy to check in on the Forum when I was all finished (just enough to put some toppings on a homemade celebration pizza). I took yesterday and today off the erg, but should be back at it on Sunday morning. :D

Thanks Sheena, will have a read! Fairly new, have been rowing for 11 months now - recently upgraded to a C2. Really enjoying it atm.

In looking over the stats compiled by JonT of the FreeSpirits https://freespiritsrowing.com/challenge ... enge_teams I see that we had a much better year than 2020 in the World Erg Challenge. We moved up from 42nd last year to 21st this year, doing more than double the total meters that we had done in 2020.

Great work by all of our new members, especially the eye-popping total put up by Sheena! :o
