Whoop, whoop and I got it done! After a blockbuster May and first week of June, there was a bit of rebuilding capability time...and surprisingly, when I look back at my logbook...only two weeks where I couldn't put in any meters. Felt like longer! Anyway, I'm happy to report that I have erged ONE million bike meters for the season...and hope to get many, MANY more. In fact, hope to get some rowing machine meters completed too.
Hooyah and keep the faith.
K2 - number 14 on the meter millionaire list this year!
K2 – This is a HUGE accomplishment! Congratulations!!

Since you asked... I suspect that Zach and I simply share the same last name. However, I have over 40 aunts/uncles and have cousins I've never met, so it is possible that we are related.

Here's a link to all the Lunie finishers, and I think you'll see that sometimes an individual had an AMAZING week, and some had amazing weeks every week.
https://log.concept2.com/challenges/dog ... ation=1092
The overall top meter producers are (unless I missed someone!):
Ron M 616,905 m
Ed 536,682 m
Cornel 421,863 m
One thing I have learned, though, is that a top finisher can mean a lot of things - and it's not always about how many meters were erged. That's not meant to suggest that you shouldn't have asked who erged the podium spots. Some meters are surely harder than others, and all meters are good meters! Not that I'm going all George Orwellian on anyone! We had a lot of good stories along the Challenge pathway. One of the ones that I noticed was Robin S's half marathon...after previous ranked rows of only 5 and 10K, and not a huge amount of meters in her meter piggy bank just yet....and she pulled a half marathon. I am willing to bet that there were some meters in there between the 15 and 21K where she had to work really, really hard to convince herself to keep going. Because we've all been there - and that's one of the cool things about being part of a team. Everyone knows exactly what it took for you to get the work done. There aren't any shortcuts. Teammates respect the work you've done - and the discipline that it took to produce it.

Woohoo! The bike erg is wonderful - but dang! I really enjoyed being able to get back on a two wheeler (with some pedal assist) to ride on the Peak to Plains trail route. As you can see, the multi-use path drops down very close to Clear Creek. Great route for walkers, access for fly fishing and rock climbers, in addition to the bikes.

Not to get too far ahead...but 88 days until the US Thanksgiving....and the start of the Holiday Challenge or Season ....
But first...we have the Fall Team Challenge, September 15 - October 15. This is a club team Challenge - meaning that people who are based at a single physical location are competing for prizes if they generate 100 K or 200 K in the Challenge. We all still participate, but aren't eligible for the goodies. I was first introduced to Concept2 and the indoor rowing machine through the Fall Team Challenge at the Wellness Center sponsored by my employer. Prizes at that time (and I would think they are similar now) were water bottles, workout towels, and things like that.
To participate as part of the Lunie team (and it's open to all who want to do so!), you do need to confirm your participation even though you might already be a member of the team. When next in your logbook, scroll across to the Teams section, then down to where it says "Join" team ! One strategy for the team challenge is to consider adding 10 or 15 minutes of erg time to that you might do usually. We don't have specific meter requirements - it's whatever works for you and your schedule.
And speaking of Fall, while walking the pups yesterday I mused that it wouldn't be all that long before it would be jacket weather - even though this seemed far away with the streak of 90F plus temperatures that so many of us are experiencing. Usher in a cold front, and shiver me timbers...it's 42F this morning. Really, it was just a thought....not a wish!
MILESTONES...Bragging Rights...Celebrations:
2.1 MM Minnie

1.2 MM Patrick Hmr - some big meters this season! I think he likes the bike erg!

First, way to go K2 for the big million. Dat’s moving dem feets.
After I rode for 21K yesterday and stressed my poor tender yet gorgeous tushy, the new seat showed up. Well ahead of schedule if not timely for me. I had a time changing the seats. The nut is up too high under the seats to allow the tools I had on hand work. Out came the little pliers. It worked but I sure chewed up the nut. So it is on but I’m not going to give it a try today. It does look good though. I may give it a go tomorrow depending on my rear view perspective.
Janice is telling me I am trimming down some. The combination of rowing and riding appears to be doing some good. Most days I row for around 8K and then I double the rowing on the bike. Sometimes I don’t feel like doing both and I try to bike for 20K and that’s where I get in to trouble. Say 16K appears to be not too bad on me but getting near the 20K mark is a pain.
For those who watch Netflix. Did you know there’s an auto play feature that keeps going from one episode to the next? I just learned about this. I had to turn it on. This only works when watching a series that have a next show to go to. You can set this by going in to your account on the computer, select your profile and the option should be there.
Rock and roll!

I forgot to mention Carol (the only cdykstra I know) and I did a real-world metric century on Saturday. We were at 97km when we got back to our staging location, so we had to keep riding then turn around and head back. ~50km in to the wind was rough, but we survived it.
Edit: Pulled a 6:53 2k last week to remind myself what sub-7 feels like. I didn't max out my heart rate and it didn't leave me dying on the floor. A few more weeks of concentrating on rowing and I might actually be ready for a 6:40 2k!
