Welcome back, Mighty Thor. As of this morning, I note you exceeded 100;000 meters. A personal word of caution: Don't overdo it too quickly, as yours truly unfortunately did. Do as I now say, not how I mistakenly did. Great to see you again accumulating the meters. Tom

The Time Between

The time between Challenges might find you chasing other forms of exercise. Our hiking trails, recreational areas, campgrounds....packed. It was hard to find a place at lake's edge to "launch" the pups into the water. Good thing we have places for people and their families to get away - but get your s'mores supplies early in the week! They sell out fast.

That said, next up in the Challenge queue is Dog Days of August. You'll need to gather distance as the four weeks of August progress...and this will set you up well for the NEXT Challenge...which currently is the Fall Team Challenge. Concept2 may well throw another one or two Challenges into the mix, so watch the Concept2 space!

Also a good time to take a look at the Annual Meters Challenge...before your goal gets away from you. I'm reminded that six weeks ago, I was at a 16K per day average...and I'm at half that right now. So, if you want to get on the 10K a day Honor Board level....you need at least 810K since this is day 81 of the Concept2 calendar year. Tick tok. Although it is REALLY hard to understand how the year can be flying by when aspects of it feel like summmmmr is crawling....

Meteors and comets! Oooooh Aaaaah! This is a great time of year to get out the air mattress and watch the night sky. You might see the satellite train (Starlink) that's up there, too. International Space Station. And, if you're lucky, you'll see the Milky Way. You can't always get a reservation at your local, state or national parks this summer (night sky visibility might be better there)...but for many, there is the backyard or even, perhaps, the rooftop. Tucson has many homes with flat rooftops, and we had an exterior staircase that led up to the roof for night sky viewing. Watch for bats.
Howdy, and I trust all Luna-tics are well as I catch up on Luna-tic news. Janet and I have been Out & About in the outback over the past month or so and picking up on Kona's comments, I must say it is one of the most enjoyable things we do whilst 'on tour' - watching the night sky. The Milky Way dazzles, you can see stars all the way down to the horizon, and we did catch a glimpse of the satellite train whilst out in February - awesome to see, although just a touch spooky (if that's the right term...!)

We are planning another couple of trips over the next couple of months, but perhaps Covid will change those plans. We'll take each day as it comes, in the meantime back on the Erg or the boat...

And for those who would like to see some pics of the Outback, we've put some up on our website. https://thelandy.com

Take care out there, Cheers, Baz

Like some others, I've been doing some other forms of exercise while doing a little less meters on the machines. Looking forwards to the dogs days of August. Hopefully, the kids will be back to school in a few weeks. Would be nice to start getting life back to somewhat more normal.

Big Easy, Mayhem Gulch, Cannonball, and Oxbow....these are some of the trailhead names along the Peak to Plains trail that has been under construction for about six years just outside of Golden CO. This legacy trail will one day connect the South Platte River in Denver to the headwaters of Clear Creek at Loveland Pass. When I first sat in on community meetings at the Mountaineering Center in Golden CO, I will admit that I thought this project was too big, too expensive...but it's getting done via a bunch of partnerships. This is a multi-use trail, designed to blend into the canyons, and offer residents and visitors a truly Colorado experience. It's top of mind today because a 163 ft bridge is being put in place to span the creek - and that bridge placement will result in some highway closures in the next week. There's a short video on the construction update that shows where the bridge will be placed at the Peak to Plains website. You might find it a good visual - and gain an understanding of why some of these projects are time consuming and pricey. Very cool stuff.
