Managed 17,004 meters in 30 minutes tonight on the BikeErg, just shy of 300 watts average. I find that higher wattage bike rides 'wreck' me less than the equivalent row session. Those that have both available, is that your experience as well?
WOW!! :o
That's incredible!
Congratulations!

That's Awesome Chris, As Ed said that's some serious dedication and commitment, and great health is what comes with all that time and effort.

Thanks, guys! I definitely follow the "sure and steady" philosophy of turtles. Not much for speed, but I only allow myself (tv) screen-time, if I'm sitting on an erg and rowing or riding. All those movies, and tv series, add up over the years! I would have to agree that there are great health benefits.

Hooboy! Lunies are putting in the erg time....except at the Bike Erg World Sprints...hmmm. My return to the bike erg is a stepwise progression. I had to start with the bike seat just about as high as it could go (and still reach the pedals) due to lack of ability to flex the knee beyond a certain point. Then, as range of motion got better, the seat went lower. I'm pretty much at the same seat height as prior to knee replacement now, but having to rebuild RPMs. As a comparison, my prior RPMs were generally in the high 60s. My initial return was a robust 20-something. I'm up to high 50s now, and still almost a minute off my usual average time per split. All this to say that the best I can do for 4000 meters is probably somewhere in the 14-15 min time frame. Snort. And, you know what, I'm going to ride that 4000 m anyway...even if I'm last (with an asterisk). :D

Meanwhile, as gyms reopen, we're hoping that Lunies who have been sidelined by lack of access to the erg will be able to resume their meter trek. I did hear from bg that while her gym has reopened....no rowing machines are set out for use. Whaaaat?

With any luck my model D will be on the way by the 27th. Looking forward to erging on the back patio in the cool early mornings. A close friend asked me: "Hey Jamie: I know you are a rower. I have a question. My son wrecked his ankle a few years ago when he fractured it badly, had to have surgery to put pins and screws in, then proceeded to stand on it for 12-hour workdays. Can you still use a rowing machine if you have a bad ankle? He doesn't have a way to exercise and I thought rowing might be the answer."
I answered back to contact Concept 2 and realize that there is always the liability trap in recommending something that can go wrong. Erging is low stress on the joints when properly done. Was wondering if anyone here has had experience erging on a bad ankle and couild give some advice.......

Congrats on the imminent arrival of the Model D! I’m sure it feels like forever that you’ve been waiting!
On the ankle question, I guess one avenue to pursue would be the adaptive rowing options that Concept2 can offer. I don’t know what those are exactly, but I do know that there are modifications should it not work out with the ankle that might allow for rowing. Definitely worth asking Concept2!
