We're off to the Outback ... And out of interest, for the "Mad Max" fans amongst us, we'll be in a small locality where they were filmed, basically a one pub town called Silverton that we like to visit when in that region - See you all in about a month...
I loved all of those post-apocalyptic movies ... please take some sort of iconic picture to post!
Have a great time and nice paddling Baz!

I just simply have to laugh at myself, awhile back I put the solstice challenge on my calendar as the 21st, and I hadn't looked at the forum recently, otherwise I would have been reminded that it was on the 20th. Oh well, I completed it today and it just counted as my own challenge...BazZy have fun on your great adventure and stay safe. Happy happy to see K2 back with a new knee and in the 1st inning of her recovery, best to you. Zach, funny how you start out on a casual 1/2 and then the competitive spirit starts taking over and you zero in on a new goal, way to finish in under a 2min. pace.DanWho as always thanks for taking over and coming up with such fun graphics, we have some great talent that leads this team.
Ha, I did the same, why one would have to row 21k on the 20th? ;)
Noticed the error though and was able to scrap together the 21k before the 20th was done.
Congrats on doing the challenge as you planned it, good for you!

Me too. I am pretty sure that is what they originally said.
I went and did my 21 km on the 21st, and then was curious as to why I didn't get the Summer Solstice certificate. I saw the date was changed to the day before. :(
Since the day before was the Sabbath, I couldn't have done it then. so I will count mine as a virtual one.

For the Juneteenth row I did 19665 m (19-June-'65).

Greetings Lunies! Dan W tried to get me signed up for a 21 step program to complete today's Solstice Challenge: the "game is afoot" he wrote. Mischief certainly abounds with this team! I am happy to report that I have at least walked more than 21 steps unassisted. There is still a bit of work to do on this recovery, but the hard part of going in there for the slice and dice to become bionic is complete. One thing that has been quite clear is that the work that was done on the BikeErg since September is paying off hugely. Before you're even fully awake from all the anesthetics, you're asked to do leg lifts - both with the surgical and the "good" leg. I completed this task with speed and verve (it was a good nerve block) - and one nurse said "she must have some abs." Hahaha. No. But I definitely have some good quadriceps. The stationary bike or bike erg will be my friend during all this recovery. It has not all been painful; but, it has been uncomfortable at times. I am sure that I owe the cuss jar at least a $20.

I try to hold myself to a good standard with grammar, etc., but there will be mistakes as I am still on some of the meds. Initially, I wondered what language keyboard I had accidentally engaged. It will all work out.

And this segues into nothing really, but there were a couple of things that have made me have some heartfelt laughs during all this work up to and during the knee replacement.

Going in for dental cleanings post pandemic arrival is very different now. I went a couple weeks before my new knee, and am still giggling.

You will find a totally masked and gowned hygienist ... now instead of just finding it hard to answer what you've been asked while the cleaning is happening, you will find it harder to understand the question, too. Hygienists were not considered essential workers during the lockdown - yet golf courses were. This is a mystery to all of us. They made me rinse with hydrogen peroxide - and hydrogen peroxide when you swish it, grows in volume. The more vigorously you swish, the greater the volume. There was this itty bitty bit of hydrogen peroxide mixed with Listerine in the cup, and you have to swish for a minute. As time passed, and the hygienist started counting down at 30 seconds, I could feel the volume growing. Pretty soon, I felt very frothy...like rabies frothy. It was amazing. I almost started laughing which would have been bad. So remember to pace yourself.
All I could think of was when we brushed Jesse’s (the cat’s) teeth, he foamed up just like that ...and ran through the house with foam everywhere. It was so traumatic that we didn’t do that with him again.

So far, 11 Lunies have completed the Solstice Challenge! Good work Lunies! Keep it going!
Welcome back.
Wishing a speedy, complete, recovery.

Sunshowers...you know, when it's sunny as all get out, and it's raining at the same time. Lots of sayings come from this sunshower business - and seems that most of them have something to do with the devil and beating wives. Aaack. No. I was checking in with my Mom and we were discussing thunderstorms - especially how the pets can freak out. She said she was awakened by booms of thunder a few days ago. After the second boom, she'd thrown open the shutters (not mixing my summmer and Christmas tales here), and to her surprise...it was quite sunny. No rain at all. Just thunder. Then she thought about the roving pack of javelina - the wild pigs that frequent many of the suburban neighborhoods of Tucson and the Catalina Foothills. A month or so ago, a neighbor who helps her get her trash cans to the curb had texted me to say that the javelinas were getting into her trash - and that he didn't mind helping, but perhaps she could leave the trash can in the garage until trash day. We did that...keeping a small container in the garage, and transferring contents on trash morning to the big bucket. Good summer money for an enterprising kid. But these javelina are smart pigs. They have figured out the pattern of when the trash trucks will be in different parts of the neighborhood, and they rove from feeding station to feeding station. Having scored a previous early morning root around in the trash opportunity, they were convinced that ramming speed javelina could dump over the trash bucket and release its contents...only it was empty. Not sure whether we are managing the javelina, or they are managing us. Just know that thunder isn't always thunder...but you should always lookout for javelina at ramming speed. :D
