Re: Forum Flyers
yes I was surprised with Terry's 280 as well Jack but I wasn't there to push him! I suspect he wasn't that impressed by it either.jackarabit wrote: ↑May 8th, 2020, 12:05 pm
Saw Terry’s placement just north of Graham’s and mine. Eyes about bulged out! Some fellers put up Sleepy Joe numbers early on. I always liked getting over on Henry J when he did one of his stiff back “markers” only to add on 1O0+ watts a week later.
BTW we are currently just a "bees dick" (to coin a phrase) from number one! Haven't seen that for a while.
My Rowing Australia friend Kathleen is the 294 ((and a lwt) and has the sight of 300m in her eyes so she may go again.
The new lwt superstar (351m) is also an Aussie - young guy who is an OTW buddy of Steve Ockerby in Townsville in North Queensland.
On the 25th April he did the "Anzac Day" challenge 18x 2504m/9'R @1:57 so Steve thought he might have a good minute in him too.
Steve is isolated away from the erg so may have trouble to get one done though.
happy days !

I request everyone to kindly pardon my french but:
<expletive deleted> YYYYYEEEEEEAAAAAAAHHHHHHH
Just pulled a new 2K PR of 6:52.3 and am very happy with that.
Sat down in PR or ER mode again, changed tactics to something even my lizard brain can remember when in the pain cave:
Dont let the number hit 1:45.. ever.. Use the fresh legs off the line offcoarse but for the rest keep it flat and wait for the 'pain'.
Which came a bit later around 15-1600 meter into the piece. Bit down, did whatever it took to hold 1:44 till 200 to go, then launched a
die-across-the-line she-wont-take-any-more-cap'n sprint.
2 secs improvement of my 4 year old previous PR which I was honestly only hoping to equal.

Re: Forum Flyers
The previous PB was pretty old and paced conservatively, so I think one of my relative weakest PBs, I expected this effort to be bad due to bad preparation. After my 6-week-sharpening I'm pretty sure to get a PB I'm really happy withlindsayh wrote: ↑May 9th, 2020, 6:51 amI love it when you are not happy with a PB Martin - good way to look at things I reckonMartinSH4321 wrote: ↑May 9th, 2020, 6:28 amDid my 2k today, 6:43.6, not really happy with it, but at least I finished it![]()

Re: Forum Flyers
I think we will break 7 if Martin's time is put in (have you ranked it already Martin?).
Hope to see some more entries before the deadline, looks like the 2k is daunting to many (is to me usually), but if you just sit down and pull it like you
would any other distance (as best you can) then it really isn't all that scary.
Apologies for the strong language earlier but that was in a happy haze after the 2k and I was a bit excited to have done as well as I'd hoped.

Introduction
Hello, all.
My name's Mike and this is my first post as a Forum Flyer.
I started indoor rowing last July, and I did just over 1.5 million meters in the remaining ten months of my first year. I'm 67 and I retired in January.
I just completed my first-ever full marathon today. It wasn't exactly "Flyer" time, as I only averaged 2:51 for my splits, finishing in just under 4 hours.
Nevertheless, I'm still alive and I'm looking forward to joining you on some team challenges in the future!

Re: Forum Flyers
Congratulations to all the PBs flying through, and just generally well done to everyone just to get a time loaded in the Spring Series!
I did the dreaded deed this afternoon, and true to recent form set off at an optimistic pace, and did some positive splitting before a little ramp up at the end. 7:57.1 - happy to just be done, and put down a marker that should be easy to knock off when focused training starts up again.
Our second boat has floated, but I'm not holding my breath on the 3rd one. There certainly seems to be a bigger mental challenge to sit down and do a 2km, versus throwing yourself at one of the other distances / times.

Well done, John! Always nice when training efforts translate into knocking chunks off the 2k time.
And I agree on the pain! Have to have an excuse to do these things.

Re: Introduction
Congratulations Mike on the first post, and more importantly, the first marathon. That's a great achievement, and not easy to do, especially when persisting for nearly 4 hours. I remember my first one years ago - getting my drinks dilution messed up, and running out of steam 2/3rds of the way through. Figuring out the issue, and quickly refuelling and staggering over the final third. Have never made that mistake again.Zuman wrote: ↑May 9th, 2020, 4:06 pmHello, all.
