5k a day average? Keep it up. Take a rest day now and then.

Re: Forum Flyers
Welcome on board, Laura! Good to have some extra metres filtering onto the board.
Happy New Year everyone (I see I haven't logged in since 31 Dec). Sorry for the silence from my side - not running away from my new captaincy responsibilities yet! The combination of nipping out of town for a holiday on New Year's Eve, and then struggling through my first days back at work this week have kept me off the forum.
Training is still going well though, so hopefully will get a chance to meet at least 2 of the Forum Flyers in Paris. I lugged the rower off to the beach house and managed to keep up to the training plan. Have also been able to prioritise training over work since I've been back home, which is easier in these earlier days (and the kids are still on school holidays).
I did the scheduled 2km test yesterday. Target was to make sure I could get under 2:00 pace, but increase the speed in the final quarter if I was able to. Happy enough with my 7:54.9 in the end, and I don't think I maxed out my effort yet. Not sure what last place in the 40-49 heavies is normally, but I'm just hoping not to hold up the schedule for the next race too much.
I did spend a bit of my holiday thinking about the Forum Flyers and what we want to achieve as a team (lots of time to think during those 50 minute slow sessions!). I'll put that together as a separate post when I'm ready (and make sure the Facebook outpost is covered too).
In the meantime, please keep recruiting within your network for the VTC (still a couple of days to add names), and for the team in general. Thanks to Jack and Lindsay for keeping up the sales pitches across the forum while I was away.
Cheers
Dave

Terry and I did CTC V1.0 tonite.
Mine was @1:42.5 and Terry @1:53.3 so both happy enough -=- not sure there is a lot more there but it is a good indicator for 2k TT in feb so might have another go later. Lizh will have time this month I expect.

I thought I noticed a change in team captain, but wasn't sure. Congratulations. I have really enjoyed being a part of this team for the past few years even if I don't do the speed workouts, etc. that some of you do. I am not so great at just rowing for the heck of it as I much prefer running or biking outside, but "challenge" me and I will try my best to help the team put up some decent numbers. Exactly! and well done to all - the challenges have a role in helping us all no matter how serious or relaxed about our training.
Notice the really fast CTC from "our" Floridian Kiwi Todd - very powerful for a part timer (but a he's a very serious athlete)

Re: Forum Flyers
First and probably my last go at the CTC and pretty awful it was too! lol Been doing lots of fairly steadyish 5K's and 30's for the last few months so had no idea on any pacing and decided to go for 1.45 pace for some reason
Managed to cling on to the pace in the 1K with a 1.44.9 but couldn't hold on in the 520m (1.47.4) and the last 500m even more painful limping over the line at 1.53.4 On the plus side I did just about manage not to be sick though although been coughing ever since!

Wow! And we call it “positive” splitting. Does anyone, even the big dogs, look like they never turned a hair after these charming encounters with hypoxia? Maybe Angel Rodriguez in Boston a couple yrs. back? Guy looked like he could have downed a plate of sushi with funnel cakes and pistachio ice cream immediately after, got back on the seat and done it again.

Re: Forum Flyers
Morning, people and Buenos dias nuestro nuevo capitan!!
Boat two floats, did the deed this morning, first row in January after putting the back out two weeks ago, just hoping it is not sciatica, i think not as no leg and feet, i think just my hips and glutes telling me to **** off and do some stretching and yoga.
Strangely enough, yoga every two days and the back is sorted, well ish!!, enough for a light row.
Carol did alright, although i thought she might beat, so did allow it.
Will update and put a rallying call on Book face.
50 this weekend!!, where did that come from, in theory i should be top of the tree in the new age category. I do have an aim though, i am close to LWT and it would be fun to enter say the champs in Nov or Dec and have another crack at the 2k, i think i have missed it.
All the best
Chris

Re: Forum Flyers
Happy birthday Chris! Just a number and all that, but hopefully was suitably celebrated.
Somehow I've managed to miss 2 weeks on the forum. Not sure how these things happen, but the back to work routine, plus the back to school routine, plus trying to keep that training programme going, just seemed to conspire to keep me away from the PC.
Training sessions are mostly happening as scheduled, but I've taken a couple more rest days than originally planned. Admittedly moving from a 4-day-a-week programme to 6 was probably always ambitious (stupid) for me. I'm also fitting in the 7 Tour de Zwift sessions during Jan / early Feb, but replacing UT2 / UT1 sessions with them to avoid overdoing things.
The Virtual Team Challenge looks to be going well. We have 35 members registered, which is 1 more than last year's previous best of 34. We've logged just over 3.5m metres which should beat last year's 4.159m if we keep on the current run rate. 48th position currently is slightly off last year's 46th, but still well above our 61st in 2018.
Every metre helps!
Cheers
Dave

Belated Happy Birthday Chris, hope you had a good one. Actually hoping to join you in lwt status at some point this year although still about half a stone to go - be good to meet up at an event sometime, had thought about the South West one at Bideford in March but too soon for me! lol
