My sister, wife, and I all did ours in the garage last night. We are all novice rowers and I expected it to be tough, but WOW. 400 meters into the second interval I and started to lose it big time. I think it might benefit me to spend some time learning how to pace myself! We got it done, though, and we had fun. Thanks to all you folks who helped me get us going with CTC!

Anyone considering the Mud Challenge?
It has taken me much longer than expected to regain some endurance (I went out too fast and long and my back had other ideas - as a golfer, I can't have back issues) ... I spent a couple weeks at 3k @ 2:20 (five years of other athletic pursuits and the shoulder surgery ate away at my competency). Anyway, after seeing the Mud Challenge I decided to ramp up my meters per session to see if I can get to 5k a day (it hurts to type that I was 9k a day 6/wk for three years and much faster). Pulled off 3500 @ 2:20 yesterday and 4000 at 2:19 today, going for 4500 @ ~2:20 tomorrow in hopes to get to 5k ~2:20 for 25 days in March.
Anyone else looking for some inspiration and camaraderie for the Month of March?

Re: Forum Flyers
I am planning on it. My schedule will be a bit silly, though. I am having surgery on the 16th and am planning for a week of no physical exertion. So in order to meet the challenge I have to row 5k, literally, every other day of the month. I have a feeling motivation might come in handy!lhaymond wrote:Anyone considering the Mud Challenge?

i think you mean 5k "every" day of the month? Isn't the challenge 25 days of 5k? Not that I don't think you deserve special dispensation. Besides I'll take any partners I can collect!burritomike wrote:I am planning on it. My schedule will be a bit silly, though. No, I have to row every other day of March to make the 25 days of 5k, six or seven days of the month will be down time because of the surgery.lhaymond wrote:i think you mean 5k "every" day of the month? To home in on the maths a bit, 31 days hath March. 31-25=6 rest days, not more nor less.

I am figuring in a little wiggle room in case I am up for a 5k a day or two early. But, yes, 6 days exactly. My surgery appointment is at 12 PM so I will be up early that day to get my meters injackarabit wrote:To home in on the maths a bit, 31 days hath March. 31-25=6 rest days, not more nor less.

I read “every other day” as in row-off-row-off I was trying to figure out how there was 56 days in March!burritomike wrote:I am figuring in a little wiggle room in case I am up for a 5k a day or two early. Re: Forum Flyers
I'll be doing the mud challenge as well. I'm only doing 4 or 5 days a week at the moment so those other required days will just do a 25 min row which should get me my 5k +
Just finished the military challenge. My team placed 72nd. Which was a but disappointing as I did 137k and the other 2 on the team did 20k between them. And I only did like 16 days. Feb was a bit of a slack month

Re: Forum Flyers
the March challenge FYI
I like these ones - need to be careful on the first one as you can't go out too hard or leave too much in the tank
a pedant would say "slower" I guessMARCH 2018 – The RowPro Tactical Double
Row for 15 minutes two times
With 3 minutes rest between each rep
Start each 15 minute row from a standing start.
Record the distance rowed for the slowest of your 15 minute rows.
So you can’t do one easy and one hard. You need best effort for both

This looks evil to me. 15:00 / 3:00r (!!!) / 15:00 Rest time looks brutally short. And as to how to pace it, that will be total guesswork.
Back to pedantry, of course I can do one easy and one hard, especially as I will no doubt just be looking to survive.
The prospect of also/alternatively trying to do this at a semi-respectable pace on the SkiErg does not give me cause for cheer either.

She's an avid CrossFit junkie and since they use ergs pretty often she was no stranger to the drill. She's also in pretty primo condition and if you tell her that she is competing against other people she will give 110% and WILL NOT STOP. She walked out of the garage in pain, came back five minutes later and she is still sore as of this morningPaul N wrote:That time posted by your better half is amazing Mike. Edit: "NEARLY collapse" haha. There was no "nearly"

No one should feel obligated to do 3x15' simply to honour the sacred superlative adjective. Pick your poison for pacing. I shall treat as 30' TT with a restful nap midway.Paul N wrote:lindsayh wrote:the March challenge FYI
